Head Unit Fitting - Double Din Adapter

Gnome

Recommended Posts

Hello again all.

Have nearly sourced the parts for the head unit, and was not looking forward to shelling out £40 or so for a Double-din unit.

So, being a tight-git that I am, I searched the net.

Found an online shop called "Incar Discount Ltd," who can supply the Double Din unit (FP-11-03) for about £27 inc VAT & Next day delivery!

Beats paying about £30-£40 for one anyways, and having to wait 3-5 days for Halfords to order it in!

Double Din unit - here!

HTH peeps,

Haven't bought it yet.

Was waiting to see if anyone else had got one cheaper!

As for the Speakers, I ain't got a clue mate.

I'll be in the same boat at some point soon though.

Just need to make a new parcel shelf, and fit my 6x9's in there.

Bought mine from the USofA - £10.. :D (Exactly the same)

Lucky you!, wish i could og got hold of one for that!, so far ive spent £26.50 + £41 + £13 = £80.50 just to be able to fit a aftermarket headunit in. Still think it will look better than the old coin box trick, i did only pay £70 for a nice headuni tho

Same as, but my lead was £11, and the head unit i got (Sony CDXS2000) was £65 last year when I got it.

Only paid £35 for Kenwood 6x9's as well!

I probably would have bought them from the States, but it's been nearly 2 weeks with a tape player, and I can't stand no more!

Thats what i dont understand, why do people change there shelfs when fitting 6x9's, i have no sub, jsut standard 4 Speakers in front and my new 300watt jbl in back, will not having a different parcel excpet standard result in poor sound quality?

I wouldn't think so Ad.

I think most peeps change them to make them into a stealth shelf - you can make the shelf deeper, and then with the extra space, can adapt the stealth shelf to look like standard.

I think a few guys have had problems using the standard shelf though.

Plus, if you come to sell it, you either have to sell the Speakers with the car, or buy another shelf (unless you can bodge the original back together if you use it).

I've made a stealth shelf for mine as well, had the standard one befor. Yes, it is strong, but trust me, now i've got the new shelf in the back of the car, the sound quality (in my opinion) is a lot better, can crank th volume up more, without (what seemed to be) alot of distortion.

The main reason i made my own shelf was for when i come to sell i dont think people would be to impressed with two big holes in the shelf!

Also the sould quality is much improved with an aftermarket jobbie as the standard shelf is flimsy the Speakers move the shef instead of the air resulting in much reduced sound quality!

hope this helps!

CB

I'm looking at doing this but the cigarette lighter issue is putting me off tbh! :(

I left the cigarette lighter out of my new fascia.

It'll never get used, and if I come to sell the car, the standard fascia will go back in with th standard tape player/ radio.

Piccies to follow of new install.

Its just too hard to get the original out without breaking it, because you can't get a proper grip! Thats why i went fot the Halfrauds one... Doesn't look to bad to be honest, but i haven't wired in the Illumination, as the original didnt have it!

Took me 5 mins to wire in to the original connector with spade terminals and recievers, and works great! And i didnt even have to cut any wires!!!!!!

Gnome - Have you just left a blank hole?????????

Piccy now in Garage with modification.

Yup Dicey, just left a hole there for now.

May get summit to put in it, like another ciggy lighter, but as I don't use one, then I'll prob just leave it for now.

Yeah it needs something ;) I was half tempted to mount my sub level control in there, but i do actually need it for power!!

Nice clean install there anyway!

It's just a bit of a bugger to get out, without snapping summit so I've heard.

Like i said, i left mine alne, as it'll never get used.

Good jobs people!

I know its a bit off topic, but Dicey, what's that red thing to the right of your lower console?

Mine doesn't have it and I'm curious!

Cheers,

Alan
