Hello World

Gen5GT

Hiya folks just bought myself a white Gen 5 GTi and have a couple of issues that it would be nice to get some advice on.

First of all the sunroof is always slightly down at the back. If you use the slide buttons it works although doesn't take the carpet with it but the tilt buttons don't work at all and no matter what you do it won't close properly. Last couple of days have had alot of ice down my back I can tell you.

Secondly have white smoke coming from my exhaust when on hard acceleration, first thought was cold day but there is too much even once it's warmed up for it to be just that. Then I thought maybe blown head gasket but the car isn't pressurizing, it runs perfectly, it never misses a beat, it isn't using extra water and the oil isn't emulsified! HELP PLEASE?!?!?!? lol

Thirdly the central locking only works from the door lock switch on the drivers door. Press that and everything locks but if you use the key in the door (No alarm on it yet but soon to be sorted) then only the door you have the key in opens.

Fourth, Windscreen washers don't work. Going to check fuses shortly but just in case does anyone know where I might get a new pump for the washer jets?

Fifth it has a damaged passenger side wing so anyone know where I might find a ready painted white passenger side wing?

That's all I can remember off the top of my head right now but am sure we will find more faults in the next few days/weeks as you all know how picky Rose can be with things not working and I'm just the same.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Alex

Welcome to the club first of all

I also have a White GT Gen 5 which is for sale having now bought a Gen 7. The GT has given me 8 years of fantastic motoring though and I hope the 7 can give me half as much fun as I have had with the GT (except another speeding ticket of course  ).......

Can't help with yur questions I'm afraid exept to say might be worth chhatting to a local dealer to get free advice.

Bear with us on here as I'm sure you'll get the other Celica-heads along soon enough to help out.

Thanks for the welcome.

Unfortunately I've just had to break my R32 GTR so don't think the GT is going to knock my socks off so to speak but am well pleased with it. Runs sweet as a nut is quite attractive even if I do say so myself and has a fair bit of speed for a 2.0 N/A certainly a good choice to see me through the next couple of years with a bit of style I think :D

Looking forward to attending shows and meets with the TOC especially as Rose keeps telling me how much fun they are and everytime I've been to a car show with her this year have met up with you all and had a blast. Will be buying my membership in the next couple of weeks just need to concentrate on getting her sorted and ready for action first.

Ok well sorted one problem temporarily. The sunroof problem is the runners are not pushing it up fully when they close. Have removed the sunroof and then put it back in it's proper placement and just not gunna be able to use it till I can be ubikd to go get new/replacement runners for it.

Still not sorted the tilt problem that seems to be more of an electrical glitch as the switch does not feel right but after taking it apart cannot see anything wrong with it. Will just get a new/replacement switch/light unit when I get the runners.

It started raining so I came back in but sun is out again now so gunna go check all my fuses see if I can spot the problem with the washer jets.

hi,

The problem with the window washers may be that the motor for them(there are 2 on the bottle) may have got too old and rusted from the inside out as mine did.. i could get the rears washer to work but not the front. i took off the motor for the front and it had kinda exploded with the rust from te inside. a quick call to the local breaker and another one was put in it's place for £5. sorted.

yeah there are no problems with fuses so must be the motors. Neither of mine work though so will be a tenner :D doesn't look easy to get to the pumps though as they are below the ABS control unit.

to get to the washer bottle, the easiest way is to go in from underneath. take off the wheel, undo all the screws and nuts holding on the plastic arch, pull out the arch and there u have it.. the washer bottle. make sure u put the arch plastic back on the right way with ALL the screws.
