Heater Problem!

Is anyone able to help me with a tech picture of heater matrix? I've seen some horrid things on these sites today, of people taking almost whole cars apart to repair heater. Is it really that bad? I have a very useful partner who owns 2 Supras ( one has a V8 Chevy engine, put in by himself) so I think he'd be able to do most things for my car. Just need to know how! I've had some leaking on passenger side floor and its obviously been happening slowly for sometime. Then it was impossible for me to demist when I put heater on, almost like a residue had formed on w/screen. And finally, it overheated last Friday and now we have snow and I'm freezing!!!! Heater has been disconected and temperature now running as normal.
