Hi All,

I have a Celica 1.8 Vvti Premium, do quite a bit of high speed mileage (Note...In Germany where it is legal).

My Wagon is 2 months old, and Im having major problems when braking below 10 Mph. Sure, Drive faster and the problems gone, but sometimes you must drive slow.

The Brakes pull inconsistently both left AND right,

Any ideas whats causing my pulling power... It sure isnt my good looks!

Thanks

Gaz

Having had alot of problems with brakes on various cars over the years I'd say your pistons in your calipers are sticking. Possibly the boot which protects the piston from dirt has broken and inside has dried up or gotten dirty etc.

If it's only two months old though I'd get Mr T to look at it under the warranty. Sounds like could be a problem with the ABS control unit or maybe you didn't bed the pads in properly if doing alot of high speed travel? Best way to find out for sure would be take it to either a dealer or at least a local garage and get them to put it on the roller brake tester.

I would wait for some more mechanically minded advice but i would think it would be one of the following...

Tracking could be off.. if this has been a problem for a while then check your tire wear and see if there is either any un-symetrical wear on either tyre or un even wear between the two tires.

Or possible uneve brake bias. One break may be low effort or even seized. Depending if its seized on or off it would marking on the disk if its been like that for very long. Also the brake would heat up an unusual amount after driving it for a short distance even without using the brakes much. Also if you jack up the front of the car the wheel would not rotate freely. Low effort im not sure about how you would prove easily..

However from my guess either of these would have more effect on braking at low speeds than high speed. Certainly did when i seized a brake caliper on to my disc. Would suddenly pull to left or right when almost stopping.
