Symptons of my turbo going

White smoke out of exhaust

Very slow increase on boost guage

Failure to raise above 0.5 bar when set to 1bar after running at 1bar

Spinning squeek sound when accelerator is pressed

Lack of dump out of the dump valve very quiet

--

Heard alot of doom stories over the phone being lumpy

not working right etc, picked the car up and went out for a quick

drive after the new turbo was put on and new cam belt.

It was boosting fine but a little lumpy so i came back to the

house and reset the ecu, went out for a drive and it was perfect

sounded great no lumpyness either.

What i did notice was at first i thought heard a police car

but it was actually the sound of the fan blades in the turbo

spinning up , and the dump valve sound was much much louder

my old turbo never did this!!

When i looked at my old turbo the whole of the turbo had oil on it

underneath the turbo on the bottom part was COVERED in a 1 - 2cm

pasting of oil , the fans could also be moved from side to side and

made a squeeking sound. Which means not only was the turbo

seals gone possibly gone along time ago, the bearing on the fan was gone.

TOTAL PRICE .. new turbo,fans,fitting £1050 :( :(

But works GREAT... will bump to 1bar again in the next week get the turbo

used to its new boosting

I'd run it for a week or so before going too mad, and then do it gently. A new turbo's no different from a new engine. It needs time to be run in. That is unless you went for a roller bearing turbo  (at which point I'd be very jealous, and wouldn't speak to ya any more!).

Just drive it gently for a week or so and then build the boost gradually.

how much did your turbo cost you mate? You coul dhave gone all hybrid etc for that much I think.

£595 for a new turbo , couldve gone hybrid but im not interested at running

above 1.1bar and besides turbo tech qouted me about £100 more for a hybrid!

The rest of the cost was was labour and fitting the belts plus timing, all the bolts

around the turbo was seezed badly and oil everywhere under the turbo. :!Removed!:

As long as you don't go insane with it mate, it should be fine at 1.1 bar.

People quote the safe maximum pressure at 15psi (1.03 bar). 1.1 bar equates to 15.95psi, but as long as your not blasting around with the turbo permanently on full boost, it should be fine. If you experience any detonation, you might need to adjust your timing accordingly.

Take it easy dude.
