whilst perusing some cars with a friend the other day at a 2nd hand car lot i noticed an old corolla it a 1973 2dr sat well out of the way in the corner, i belive after doing some research (on this forum) that its a Ke25. its got a 1200cc engine 50k some slight rust (had apoke at the chassis and cant find any rot its also dry inside) its been sat in the corner of the yard for the best part of 3yrs, the yard owner said it was his daily drive until then. he put a Battery pack on and it turned over fine and whan we went back with a petrol can today and tried again it started first time! what i would like to know is how much could it be worth? the guy said he would sell it but how much should i offer? and whats parts availibilty like for these cars? (it would look really good with fresh paint and some minilites retro stylee) thanks in advance for all advice :thumbsup:

Nice car,

Believe it or not 70'S Corollas never seem to fetch very much unless they are a 2 DR SR variant (even then not much more) compared to a lot of other 70's vehicles of the same class (e.g. Escort MK1, Vauxhall Viva, VW Beetle, and so on). This is a shame as the Corolla (as per the 80's and 90's) was even in the 70's one of the most reliable cars out there.

If it has no M.O.T and requires some tidying paintwork/trim then I would say no more than £300.

If you do decide to get it, M.O.T it and in turn respray it, plus some nice wheels (agree with you there on minilites  ) you will still be hard pushed to get more than £1500 when you come to sell it. I not saying it isn't worth more, I personally believe it should be, it's just the way the classic car world (in Britain) is towards what was 'standard' run-of-the-mill cars from the land of the rising sun.

Also spares can be a problem compared to the ease of finding parts for your British Banger from the 50',60' & 70's thanks to all the Classic specialists who are geared towards British classics (such as MOSS).

However for spares for older Toyotas there are two options:

1 Is the Toyota enthusiasts club which caters for all Toyotas over 10 years old.

2 Your local Toyota dealer! ... I kid you not. Contary to what certain Car Mags and dealers will tell you Japan does not "scrap cars when they get old" in fact they have a massive Classic vehicle movement (and anyway at the end of the day not everyone can afford a new car!). Due to this it is amazing what is still in stock (and made today) for old Jap cars at the factory. Providing your local Toyota dealer is helpful most parts can still be aquired from Japan; if you can wait for them to arrive after placing an order <_< (so sometimes your KE25 isn't going to always be your dally driver!)

I would be very interested to hear how you get on. How about a picture of it?

Good luck.

im also very interested but am a bit skint at the mo (just started a new job so working month in hand) but am going to go back for a propper poke about underneath behind interior trim etc when its a bit drier, the guy says its sound so if it is i will try to get him to MOT (not likely but worth a try) and offer him £200 if it hasnt gone anywhere in 3yrs its not going anywhere in the next month, when i go back i will get some pics and post them

sounds interesting mate, if its rusty and you think you can get it welded for its mot, just offer him £100 and tell him its gonna cost you £££ to fix it for its mot - but tell him how you intend to restore it. he's let it sit for scrap mate - he doesnt value it. £150 tops.

have fun mate - would love to see pics.

Hi did you buy the KE25 ?

If not why not and is it still available?

If you contact the Toyota Enthusiasts they will probably put you in touch with me. I looked after the Corolla KT register for them until last month. I own a KE25 . There are many pit falls to restoring one of these, firstly, whilst Toyota can still supply most of the engine bits they cannot supply panels. You can still get some suspension and brake bits in motor factors. Interior bits are absolutely impossible to get hold of in the UK but are available in Australia !!

Early Corollas do not run on 4x114 mm wheels like other Toyotas, they run on 4x110 mm .You cannot buy wheels off the peg cheaply.

Mine is on minilites but I had to scource a KE35 scrap and swap the front hubs and rear halfshafts over. This was not a straight forward job.

Still interested in restoring it? Or want to sell it? Ring Alan 0793 201 4704.
