Problems With Toyota Celica 190's

I have a Toyota Celica 190 registered 2001 with less than 20,000 on the clock.

I have had a presistent squeaking noise which is at it's most audible on start up and slowly deminishes as the engine warms up, but never totally goes away.

My local dealer has changed the idle belt tensioner pully twice.

The noise will disappear for 6 months or so but once the vehicle was left unused for a period of around 2 weeks it returned.

This squeak does not appear to be revving dependant, nor is it affected by the use of other system, i.e. the Air Conditioning.

The dealer has even changed the alternator once.

Is this an established problem with the 190 engine. To keep having the same parts replaced is going to become expensive.

Can anyone help or are there any suggestions?

Apart from the dealer changieng the belt, and or the entire "belt tensioner"

I don't know why your dealership had changed the "pully" twice as you would needed the new revised "Belt tensioner" mechanism.

Sounds like the first time they have sprayed silicon spray or some sort of deading liquid to stop the squeel when it returned changed the "pully" then alternator.

Your best bet in preventing this have the new revised "Belt tensioner assembly" and new belt installed.

My local dealership has stated a number of low milage 190's suffer a "product quality issue" related to the alternator ( although mine was changed last year under warranty). They have agreed to another replacement which they wont charge for. I wait to see, the noise is driving me mad and has now become rev dependant, after 2,500 more revs more noise.

Cheers MDB
