Hi all, im new here , hope im welcome :/ . I introduced my self in the general section of the forum , but its mario for those who dont wana switch page :)

I just got my glanza the other day and ive been driving my wife's for quite a while now. I am impressed with toyota engines and all....BUT ... when it really comes down to it , im looking for insane mind blowing power and a 1.3 isnt gonna give me a tenth of my thirst satisfaction. Therefore the solution provided to me by my trusted mechanic goes as follows:

1. THE POWERPLANT: A 2.0 Mister II conversion :) . Out goes the 1.3, in goes the 2.0 beast , custom turbos , JE pistons , eagle rods and a sleeved block. Then you button on some trd goodies (flywheel , clutch , transmission , etc..) , some bad ***** cams , and pulleys , and god knows what else. Plus a big fat turbo to go with it all. ;) im looking towards powerFC for ECU , hks and trd are providing everything else.

2. TRACTION AND STABILITY: I already have lowering springs and shocks which i think does nothing compared to what im thinking. Ive seen a toyota starlet reflect X which is a 1.3 16 valveEFI engine. FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. Thats insane enough. A 4wd conversion with a nice lsd , big wheels and some serious lowering , plus the strut bars will give me enough traction to put the power forward.

What ya think? The whole thing IS FEASIBLE , i already scrapped an old mr2 lump with some other stuff and we are looking for a 4wd conversion. Its not the best 4wd system but its the only one so it will have to do. The project is costing almost twice the car's price , but its absolutely insane. you have to agree with me there :)

the body of course will be modified for aerodynamics , front bumper , rear spoiler , etc..

Ill accept feedback , comments , questions , handcufffs , you name it....

Over and out - Mario...

hi and welcome to the club.

Ur insane buddy! :P

Enjoy ur stay.

Good plan but INSANE power is feasable witht he 4E-FTE ask Brownster on the gtturbo forums..... 386bhp@Wheel and its a 1.3 :P No cheating with using the 5E block :D Good luck wi your plan mate, if i had a ***** load of cash i would be doing the same thing :D

Posted

It's not that insane, just too much work! But hey, if you've got the money why not? LOL!

A friend was going to drop a 2.0 tubby engine in his Glanza but decided against it for a 1,6 with a giant turbo hehehehe. Not sure when he's doing the work though :( he thought the 2.0 would of been too much work

Good luck

Problem is, the Starlet 4WD system wasn't designed to cope with a lot of power. I'm guessing this would explode fairly quickly.

Use the drivetrain from a Celica GT4, shorten and balance propshaft / driveshafts to suit.

Posted

Fair play for doing it but i have to ask why?

Why not just buy something that is already 4WD and tune that?

Posted

yeah, with the money youd spend messing about you could just buy a evo. and tune it.

its much easier mate. besides. hanf the charm of the glanza is the 4efte.

Posted

I have lost faith with the standard 4efte engine. It can only go so far. 348? Thats peanuts to what you can really get to. Im still working on the traction part of it all. Theres only so much you can do. As far as powerplants are concerned indeed there is a charm to the 4efte but its not the charm that makes it go forward :)

I also looked into sticking in a 4age 20v vvti engine from a trueno/levin with a 6 speed. It just takes a lot of work. You might ask WHY im doing this conversion. Because few have the balls to do it. Its not the cash... really its the balls.

think of a 4wd 2.0 smooth kitted glanza making a fool out of so many cars... evos scoobys and god knows what else ;)

Posted

i agree with him, ive got some crazy ***** ideas for my paseo, and i dont really care bout the money - itll be my permanent project, i intend to keep ALL my cars. i just want to do something that'll satisfy my passion for cars....and sky's the limit :afro:

if you think 348 hp at the wheels on a car that weights 800 odd kilos is nothing you obviously dont know much about cars. its got the power to weight ratios up there with a ferrari or lambo.

HP means nothing, its all about power to weight.

Posted

it can be done though the car will not be able to b used as a dailycar. It is used in japan for 1/4 miles etc but to drive it on the roads over here is not really possible there will be too much torque steer etc, and ur whole car will need alot of strengthening to avoid it frm twisting.

I looked into this option but i also found that garages where not willin to carry out the work cos of the reliability

Posted

at first i thought a 4wd 1.3 would be good enough , but then again i dont think a 1.3 has enough power without the turbo.

As to a reply above telling me i dont know much on cars i have the following to state:

I joined this forum to avoid insults of that nature. I believe they are unecessary and insulting in their original nature to start with. As for that I end this feedback with some advise "do unto others as you would be done by" .

As for my indeed knowledge on cars I would rate me a 6/10 in technical issues , a 9/10 in creatvitity and breaking the limits of majority's actions.

And i quote myself to be remembered "I will build the beasty glanza even if it costs me an arm and a leg."

Thats where my personally highly rated driving kicks in. It WILL cost me more than an arm and a leg if I was a thick driver. But im sensible I believe ;) and ive driven beast cars close to what im thinking of ending up with.

Back to the original issue. The body of the car WILL NOT stand that kind of torque under any circumstance. therefore strengthening the chassis is a must together with suspension , drivetrain , brakes , and god knows what else ;) but i dont accept insults just because i left out other upgrades not concerning power ;)

hugs and kisses - mario

Another way to make a demon Glanza is to rebody something else...

You'd almost certainly have to shorten the wheelbase slightly, but its another way of looking at things...

Posted

i wasnt insulting you, i was stating the obvious..

for someone to say that over 350 whp per ton is "peanuts" then ill assume they dont really know much...

Posted

As VTRick said..... Power To Wieght is wjere it matters hence why even a Standard GT4 engined Starlet would destroy all :D

Posted

Yeh and lets see what the police will say about that over here. You know exactly what they're like at the moment with all the street racing going on. Where are you in cyprus?

Posted

you say " why not just by an evo and tune that?"

well any one can do that its not unique.

i admire you mate go on be different and give the bird to anyone who thinks your " just wasting time and money".

4WD will come to the rolla as soon as i can have about 550bhp (shouldnt be long, should be at 450ish for june.

keep us posted dude

Sorry to be dumb, ut why does no one drop a supra engine in, they have a hogher bhp starting point is it the size?

Posted

a supra engine just wouldnt fit at all.

and ill eat my hat when you have a 2.0 4wd 350+hp glanza.

Posted

supra is a straight 6 soa bit big.

sounds like the glove is down!!!!

Posted

the engine will way to much aswell there is so much work that has to be done to take a starlet to a 1.5 let alone a 2.0. Speak to highline go to hyeline.com and send them an email they will tell u all about it. There about to build a 500 bhp startlet and also believe that a 2.0 lump isnt the way around it

Posted

just let this bloke try it out, id like to see it done to be honest. but i dont think its possible without stupid ammounts of money

the 3sgte engine does not fit lengh, height, or width wise into the sera engine bay. i assume the same goes for starlet engine bay except for heighth clearance (cos ive seen a 3sgte starlet with its bonnet closed)

there is a crap load of fab needed including mounts, modified drives, intercooler, exhaust system, the list goes on....

wiring will be a nightmare.

lots of people have had this 2.0litre turbo idea before. the only person i can think of that has it done is dawesy. maybe there will be loads of various 3sgte powered toyotas going around next year. i doubt it though, because its easy to underestimate how much it costs to do. i have just started it, and already i think i should have gone for a 4agze. it would make the conversion so much easier. the 3sgte is a big lump of an engine

Posted

there are a few 3s converted cars in the uk mine wasnt by far the first but possibly is the most powerful FWD 3S powered toyota.

your right it does take time and cost a lot of money to do RIGHT. i have seen conversions done by others that didnt pay attention to detail, thin metal for mounts, bodged this and that. you can get any engine ito any car if you have time skill and above all money. i have seen a 3.5ltr rover V8 in a reliant kitten (the 4 wheel plastic pig) and that was road legal too

yes the 3S-GTE is a big and heavy engine but it is by far the most powerful and tunable of toyotas 4 cylinder engine line up
