Celica Gtr Insurance

 Just had my renewal for my Celica GTR 1991 - As far as I am aware the GTR is just a JApanese domestic version of the UK spec Gt - And yet insurers just wont have it - ie 'Has it got a Turbo??

Well I went on the internet to get a few quotes and bingo - Six quotes from £244 to £283.

But when I phoned up it turns out that all six quotes were from 2 insurance brokers - Not only that but the first broker I phoned after much checking of my details said they were a sister company of the people I am currently insured with. As a result the premium of £261 was no longer on offer so I was back to my £460??

The secound broker also turned out to be a sister company of my current insurance broker but they came in at £387 still quite a bit below my £460 but nothing like the £268 of their internet quote.

Well I was fuming - As a result I have reported both companies to the FSA(Financial Services Authority) for misleading me into thinking that they were 2 seperate companies from each other and my current broker.

But looks like I will be going with £ 387 unless there are some Celica GTR owners with better rates??

Hello Jonnor

I have a GT-R :group-cuddles: and my insurance is out of this world to the tune of £1,200  and thats with More Than. (they got that bit right) :P

I had loads of trouble finding a company that would insure her.............. they class it as a GT Auto.

My advice is to ring up just to make sure they have the right car and not put her down as a GT4

Yep looks like Im getting on at 45 years old - I think if you are paying over £500 for any kind of car insurance then you are feeding these brokers to wack up their premiums.

I must say I couldnt afford sports car insurance until after 26 years old and mummy and daddy wernt much help. Then again i wasnt going to drive some bottom of the range sofa. So I got a motor bike Yamaha200cc Suszi250cc Suzi550cc Suzi750cc

It was great fun and the insurance was cheaper - I expect now there is no difference?

Ahh well - Will go with the lowest quote after trying Norwich union direct - But remember folks dont just take IT in the face - As of January this year the Insurance industry is now heavily regulated - If you think you have been mislead - ie given a quote online and then when on the telephone make the premium higher report them to the FSA - Just look in google it takes 5 minutes

I'm 22 my insurance on my 600cc sports bike is half of what my insurance is on my celica 1.8ST!

I think my last quote for the bike was 280quid TPFT wheras the car was nearly 600quid TPFT

The bike is insured for pilions as well, and the car is insured for my wife to drive as well.

I am 26 and I am paying £560 for my 1.8ST.

I went with Norwich union Direct on my last car (a lowly Astra) they were the cheapest around for the first year - but the renewal amount at the end of the year went up £200 (despite no accidents and an extra year NCB) They were over £200 more expensive that the cheapest quote I could get. When I tackled them on this they simply reminded me what excellent service then offer!!!!!!! No £200 per year of F&^%ng service they don't.

Anyway, If any of you work for the government in any way (local govt, civil service, nursing, social work, teacher etc. etc.) Join CSMA and get insurance with Liverpool Victoria/Frizzell. They were the second cheapest quote I could find this year and they have been repeatedly voted the best insureance cover around. If you are a nurse you can get this through RCN at cheap rate without joining CSMA. They were not interested in my milage, or where I kept the car overnight!!!

Also if you join CSMA you can get Britannia Rescue cover for £56(?) which is the same cover as AA 500 for under half the price. I have called on them 3 times and they have never taken more than 35 min as they use the local companies rather than a fleet of nationwide vehicles.

Come on....you know it makes sense...... I am not even on commission like those blood sucking insurance brokers!

GT-R seems the hardest 3 letters for Insurance companies to get there heads round. No matter how many time you tell them GT-R they say "oh yes GT4"

Last year KITT was a GTi, the Insurance Company said it was my fault for not telling them she was a GT-R, I told them to listen to the phone calls I made to them I specificly said GT-R import on many occassions. Oddly enough I havent heard a word since.

I MAY HAVE BAD NEWS my friend - If your GTR is pre 1993 (Which it probably is) Then you are not insured!!!

I just went onto Norwich Union site and they dont do Imports pre 1993?

as per

"From the site

>Conditions applying to imported vehicles

>Your vehicle must be manufactured from 1993 onwards

>The courtesy car cover provided by our approved repairer is limited to seven >days

>You must have either category 1 or category 2 Thatcham security fitted to your >vehicle - this will be clarified when you get your quote

>The following imported vehicles are not covered:

>BMW Alpina

>Hummer H1

>Hummer H2

>Nissan Skyline

>Nissan Figaro

>Renault Twingo

>Toyota Altezza

>Toyota Soarer

Yes it does say GT on the policy and yes I did tell them that it was an import and a GT-R. But what can you do? I hope that the conversation was one which was 'Recorded for training purposes' :)

I am surprised you are going for fully comp, seems fairly pointless for a car worth less than 2k. But that's just my philosophy...

How much did they quote for TPF&T?
