Auto Button On T4 Climate Control

New to the forum, found it whilst rying to find out what the etc snow button did... sad that Toyota cannot do better with their manuals "use snow button when starting in snow" and "to turn on press button" are not helpful!

Anyway on the same vein what does the auto button on the climate control do... I know it alters the fan speed but does it also turn on/off/modertae the aircon? Does the air need to be on the whole time?

I leave the auto off and the systems seem predictable.... but only want the aircon on when needed... except once per week to keep it lubricated....

Pressure should be put on Toyota to remove the obvious from the manual and substitute the useful!

Hi,

Auto mode completly regulates your air con, based on different sensor readings. Once you press it, it will automatically start working. If you touch anything on aircon, Auto mode will turn off itself (you will notice button bstop eing lighten up). It turns on and off AC based on the readings as well, so compressor is not on all the time...

dont want to disagree completely with your anser but thought auto just automatically regulated the temp. it didnt then use the aircon unless this button was also pressed. normally i leave auto on all the time and it varies fan speed and direction of vents to suit. aircon is off.

Yes, the aircon button works by either being on or off, independent of the auto button. If you have auto on, as soon as you change the temp on either side, or the direction, or the fan speed, auto will switch off.

At no time will the auto go off by turning the aircon button on or off-all that does is turn the aircon compressor on or off, to provide the traditional aircon effect (cool dry air).

If you have auto on, and then turn the temp up and down you will notice the direction will change, say between face and feet, or feet and windscreen. Give it a try.

As for the ECT SNOW button, I understand that it will start the auto box in 2nd gear, thus getting you going in snow. I used it last week and it worked well, getting me up most snow covered hills!

Se what I mean, my garage told me it just controlled the fan speed, but they also told me the compressor on aircon only worked when the car needed cooling down!

What I don't know is whether with auto on , the compressor works to cool down air which is then warmed up again! See the point of this for demisting but not for general use!

My point is also that the handbook is ambiguous/useless......

All in all a fine car, done 20,00 miles in 9 months with now problems apart from a rattle from the tourer loadspacecpver/blind, which the garage have been unable to fix! Thinking of chewing gum!

i would say that unless you press the aircon button then the compressor wont be on. for best demisting you will need to put it on. the auto is just like in a standard heating system except it does it for you. aircon is aircon.
