Rear Wash Wipe On Tourer

Am I the only one who would like a quiet word in a dark corner with the switch designer for Toyota?

The rear wash wipe has two wash positions, one useless (anticlock from off) as by the time the wiper is then turned on all the wash has dribbed of the rear screen, and on fully clock (the other side of constant, when the wipers have already been scrubbing on a dry dirty screen for a couple of cycles.....

Why couldn't the off be in the middle with int/wash one way and constant wasgh the other... or is that to easy?

err, is that the new or old shape Avensis.

If it's the new one then that's very strange as my 04 T3-X Hatch has 5 positions for the rear wash wipe stalk.

Position 1 - off

Position 2 (turned up) - Intermitten Wipe

Position 3 (turned up twice) - Constant Wipe

Position 4 (Turned up 3 times) - Wipe and Washer

Position 5 (Turned DOWN once) - No wipe but wash

Thought it would be the same on the Tourer ?

This is my point position 5 is useless as the wash has dribbled of a tourer back windscreen by the time you can turn the wiper on (even to intermeittent) and if you go to position 4 the wipers have already wiped twice on a dry windscreen!

IT is an 04 .0 Petrol T Spirit.

I think I know where you are coming from. Its the same with the hatch-the washer jet is above the glass, and the wiper area is a good few inches down the glass, so by the time the water has reached the wiper area, a couple of passes have already been made.

I suppose you could do the washer first, just to get some water on the window, then switch it round the other way to get the wipers going and more water.

A bit of a faff really. I would have thought a more powerful jet of water would have solved the issue-maybe a better pump, or a decent non-return valve so water stays in the rear pipes ready to be pumped the second the pump starts.

One for the wish list!

Are you washing the back window whilst stationary? as I seem to recall being told that the washer is most effective when used on the move. something to do with the water being pointed at the top of the window so that as the car is moving away, it actually covers the whole window rather the road behind.

Sorry we are missing the point here...... The front wash is achieved by pulling the stalk forward.... the wiperes then go at the same time as the wash.... perfect!!! The rear wash when the stalk is twisted toward you is wash only with no wipe... by the time the sweitch has been moved through woff, int to contant, the washer fluid has gone....... poor design...... if only the wippers went at the same time as the wash!

This is just an example of the overall poor HMI in the Avensis, for instance when the radio EONs to a local station for traffic, it can only be dragged back to the original staion during the broadcast if the TP button is pressed twice... three times if you want the TP to remain set... even my Vectra did this with one touch of the RDS button..... The Avenesis has a PTY button, which franky is of no use to man nor beast!

I will stop ranting now!
