the time had now come to fit my pioneer stereo in my turbo. after hours spent finding a wiring diagram and having a go i now have all Speakers and the sub working (its the active system  ) but there is a humming noise even when the volume is off. the loom has been cut (no plugs) but i seem to have it wired correct. i went to a car audio store and they said the best thing to do is re-wire the lot quoting me £100  . i know its a long shot but has anybody got any ideas or had the same problem? its killing me.

I had a humming sound... turned out it was two of the pre-out connectors touching each other. Taped them up to blank off any metal and all was fine.

Could be something easy like that mate.

does the noise come from the alternator? Does it change pitch with the revs?

I dont think so, i will check that when the girlfriend brings it back. its buggin me as it sounds good if ya have it loud. but i am still getting this noise. Its a nightmare, i have never seen wires like it, for example earth is white with a green trace, switch live is blue  i would have a go at rewiring the lot but dont wanna do this if it is just a simple problem. :crybaby:

Are you connecting into the pre-outs on the head unit or are you using the wireing loom?

If you use the loom you're running the sound though two amps (the one in the head unit and the toyota one behind the passenger seat belt) - that's gonna cause a background humm. An other symptom may be having the volume go from loud to off with no real in between.

i am using the loom and not the pre-outs on the headunit mate. the volume seems to work fine but there is this awful background noise i cant shift. thanks for the advice but looks like a re-wire job soon. :!Removed!:

£35 from a local car audio store. You can get them from Halfrauds tho.

My leads weren't butchered. The loom just connects the stock Jap plugs to the ISO type.
