My parents got some stick from mums about parent and child spaces. Also my aunt did too even though she has a 1 year old child but didn't take her child with her that day, that women blew her head off for parking there when there were other spaces... women hey :P

well, as my missues said, i should have just said i had dropped the wife and two kids at the door.... i didnt think that fast...

I just avoid the spaces usually to avoid the housewives whose lives are obviously so empty and meaningless the only reason they can face the outside world is in the hope they have the opportunity to get self-rightous about a supermarket parking space..

all im saying Rach is - parents 5 years ago seemed to manage perfectly well without these spaces...

 i agree, people are becoming lazy i guess. But there use to be more entrances in a supermarket rather than a main entrance way down the other side.

eh? i had a stand up row with a woman in Sainsburys car park about this....

The car park was so full(was just before xmas), people were parking on the entry road, and blocking parts of the car park it was so busy...

There were 3 empty parent and child spaces, so i parked in one...

Some stupid woman, with 1 4 year old and a huge off-road thing (I think it was a kia/hyundia) starts mouthing off at me..

I kindly explained that:

a. It was so busy that people were parking out of spaces causing no end of problems, and it made more sense for me to park in this space (i mean, its not like its a disabled space) than to block traffic

b. i was going to be less than 5 minutes as i had 2 things to get

She responded to that logic by calling me an arrogant ****, which i found funny, since if that was the case, i would have ignored her instead of explaining my logic...

Normally, i wont park in them just because i can usually find a space elsewhere, but i dont see the big deal, i have had to deal with young kids in cars, sure its a bit difficult, but hell, you chose you have the small beasts, you shouldve thought about supermarket parking before having them....

and Rach, i love children, they are the lowest cost form of labour you can get :D ;)

You have just touched on what the REAL problem is here.

Think of the size of cars in the 80's, and compare them to the size of the cars we drive now.

Compare a mk1 Golf to a mk5 golf, the mk5 is HUGHE, and weighs twice as much.

Compare the classic Mini, to the awful effort by BMW

Compare the mk1/2 escort to the Ford Focus

And now think about all the SUV's that are on the roads. I live in Bath, and I think it's fair to say there is alot of money about here, I see probably 2 or 3 Porsche Cayenne's driving about every day walking to work.

ALL our cars have got bigger, and some newer vehicles are bigger than ever (SUVs)

Parking spaces have not got bigger.

Luckily, Asda are considering having pass card systems on P&C/Disabled spaces so only those with cards can enter. Fantastic idea I think

thats a great idea...

and i've just thought, parent and child spaces are actually parent and baby spaces no???

I mean, if you have a 10-year old, you dont need the larger space? as they can get in and out themselves?

Perhaps these cards should only be available to parents with children under 2!

anyway, how come no-one noticed my child slave-labour comment

thats funny... and im all for disabled spaces...

Ive never agreed with Parent and child ones though - quite a recent development, and i never could understand why having a sprog gives you any extra right to a dedicated space? I mean, I have a nice car - so can i have extra wide spaces near the doors for that - no of course not, i have to park down the bottom end so i can try and avoid parking dents..

Well said that man!! I totally agree.

I think if supermarkets insist on having wide parent/child parking spaces then they should also introduce "extra wide bays for people who don't like having their car dented by dumb :censor: who can't park properly or don't look behind them when they are reversing or like to open their doors as wide as possible without checking first to see what's parked next to them, etc. etc. etc".

How come the parent/child spaces are always at the front of the carpark anyway? Kids should get more exercise!

I tend to agree. Whilst convenient for parents, where do you see such spaces on the public roads? Are they enforced by law? No. Disabled spaces are. Parent spaces are a convenience. Whilst a tad difficult, you can still get a kid out from a car in a normal space. My parents managed it, their parents did and so on. Wheel chair users or those with disabilities need the extra space for entering & leaving their vehicles.

Disabled space = good

P & C spaces = should be moved elsewhere perhaps...

Got nothing overly large against them... but hey, we managed before... whats stopping a parent from getting kid out of car and putting them in pushchair at the back/front of the car? I have done this with my cousins before. And they didnt need -that- much room to be carried out of the door...

Yep cars are getting bigger... spaces smaller... someone needs to review this... but I dont think that the P & C spaces needs to be regulated like disabled ones... they are a luxury only.. not a neccessity...

And yeah.. Fidge... kids, useful things... pay them in sweets :P *snigger

Was at my local Tesco last night after work and thought as it's 11pm not many disable people will be using the bays.

I found it amusing

!Removed! chavs!

Round our way it's only the chavs that park in the disabled bays :P

I had an incident in our local Asda's car park which i thought id share with you all.

I had parked up and give what i thought was loads of room to the car next to me when this lady comes up and gives me loads of abuse as ive parked to close to her car (ok she wasnt a small lady i'll try to be PC here) and shes F in and Blinding at me.

Keeping my cool i explain to her ive given her at least 2ft to get in and shes then goes on yelling that if i didnt own a 4x4 she would be able to get in then Rachel (my wife) perks up and says to here if you went on a diet you would get in.

I tried to stop myself laughing but i couldnt the lady wasnt best pleased and gets into her car with no problems what so ever and calling me ever name under the sun and get off in a hurry.

What wrong with people

Lol....

Have to say I agree with everything above.

That was the best story I've heard in a while too steve! :D

I agree that cars have got bigger, but why can people with bigger cars seem to park fine too?

There's just a minority of people who can't park.

Hands up - I hate parrallel parking. I can do it, but I'll always avoid it unless absolutely necessary.

As mentioned above, just a hand on the door to stop it hitting the car next to you is a simple enuff task.

I'm a portly figure, and I can get into my car, even if the car next to me is only about a foot away. It's not that hard!!!
