A Few More '87 Celica Questions

Hi,

Sorry to keep posting loads of questions, but I just got the car (1987 Celica 2.0 GTi-16) and have lots of things to find out... I will stop questioning everyone soon :-D

1. The tape player seems to be broken - will any normal cheapo CD/radio player go in this car? It has an electric arial that pops up when the radio is switched on, will this be affected - and am I likely to mess up any other electrics by fitting a new CD/radio player. Any tips for fitting one? I've never done it before. (same cables - new cables... etc?)

2. The alloys (I'm assuming they're alloys...) seem to be covered in caked on ... stuff... I'm not sure exactly what it is, they have white streaks all over the metal, which looked to me like limescale - but limescale remover didnt work. There's also what looks like corrosion and just caked on dirt.. none of it came off with a stiff brush and soapy water - can anyone recommend anything STRONG that might take the top layers off or somehting and at least restore them a little?

3. What engine/mechanical parts would people recommend I change straight away - things that are generally cheap - I'll already be changing oil + filter, distributer and cam belt, and already did change the air filter ... is there anything else?

Thanks again,

Daniel.

you will need an iso cable , from Halfords at around £15 to butt the o/e wiring into the after market unit, i'd opt for an mp3 headunit , i have an original tape radio from my gt4 if ur interested in keeping it original.

maybe this will help but i doubt it http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Toyota/Celica.html

you need a strong alloy wheel cleaner that contains sulphuric acid

Thanks :-D

What do u mean by "butt the o/e wiring" is it going to be a complicated procedure?

Maybe I can take a picture of the wheels tomorrow and you could see what u think it is on the alloys.

Thanks,

Daniel

its just a wiring harness made up for you to plug your original plugs into ,then the other end plugs into the new headunit, really easy ,not hard at all.

I just found this convertor for the arial on e-ba - am I going to need something like this?

if the new head unit requires that type of ariel extension , then yes , but most simply push into the hole and dont require that, the electric ariel is built into the cars wiring loom and should go up and down no matter what modern day unit you fit.
