Apexi Vs Blitz, Which Is Best For Performance?

Hi,

Right im in the process of possibly buying an apexi or blitz aif filter, which is the best perforamnce wise (not sound?).

IF i get one, the maf sensor fits on (dont know to much just been reading a bit about it on here).

If i get one of these air filter, im going to make an heat shield out of alimum (think its best a reflecting heat?)

And then relocate behind the fron right headlamp (llookin from bonnet)

Thing is a) need a cold air feed (simple pipe?, does blitz come with one?),

Is the all a possiblity without lots of work (relocating wise), i ahvent had the chance to look properly under the bonnet yet!).

Im doing this to get best performance out of air filter

thanks

Dont know a definitive answer here as to which is best. But, people on here have both and Kimi has had both on her car - started with a Blitz and now has an Apexi.

As regards repositioning - I know that Kevin at Envy is working on a kit to do just this - I'd give him a call if I were you.

I believe blitz is better performance but is wet filter so you'll have to clean the sensor every so often. Although there is prolly only about 1bhp or less difference betweent he two and the Apexi will be less hassle as its dry filter.

if you move it you'll have to extend the MAFF wiring loom. i wouldnt bother, too much work and effort for performance you wont notice..... air filters tend to make sweet FA difference to performance, as do heat shields and cold air feeds. i dont know why people think they do...... it all looks sweet though

I got a 2nd hand Pipercross one this week, which I plan to fit at the weekend.

I'll let you know how I get on with that, and it's got a heat shield with it.

I'd say 3mm Ally at the most for the heat shield?

Ok agreed moving will be a bit of a hassel, a heatshield is a possiblity were it will be located as standard, but id hook a cold air pipe to it too. so you saying the aif filter wont alter performance at all? (sorry if im getting worn end of the stick), the only reason id fit one is for performance not sound

Yeah that seem about 3mm alumimum, might see what kev is doing with his cold air solution

oh it will change it but you wont notice it, its like maxx power fluffs thinking air filters add 10 bhp, more like 3 at most.

Haha yeah sure! totally agree :D , people think they will add loads more horsepower but thats bull*****. Im wanting to get rid of some flat spots, and possibly increase acceleration. Im realisticly think with the headshield and cold air pipe ill get about 4bhp.

But again im not interested in sound at all.

ANother question is ive been reading about cat issue (danny999 post), im thinking of getting a sports cat or taking it off all together, since im new to this i dont know how to go about it and the cost, and performance i will get?

Depends on the car. When I was thinking of getting an FTO I read a whole review on different induction kits. All tested on the same car, on the same day, on a rolling road. The best increase gave the car an extra 7bhp! And that was without a cold air intake.

So... they can make a difference.

Sports cat or decat will give a performance boost. Decat will give more, but you'll get an engine fault error appear on your dashboard. Sports cat is probably easiest.

And you'll need to do something at MOT time ... think I'll be going for the sports cat later this year.

best option as pointed out is to go with the sports cat, yup kevin is working on one at the moment i believe

neither apexi or blitz will give u a noticable change, like people have said 1-3 bhp at most instead of the claimed 8-14, best optoin is to give with looks and sound, id recomend the apexi, sounds the nuts and you dont have worry about the Maf as its a dry filter

Its maintainence free, sounds good and still does a wee bit of performance.

What you rekon between sports cat and de-cat performance differences would be?

On the yaris the induction kit will not make much of a difference in performance it would give a better throttle response but as bhp goes you'll be lucky to get a couple of extra horses!when people talk of gains of 10 plus bhp gain this would have been on 2litre plus forced induction cars supras and the like!

CB

Interesting between the Blitz and Apexi, I know they are both for the supra on that comparison but still good information.

Same gains (near enough), no maintainence and the Apexi has best filtration out of the lot, whereas the Blitz is poor.

Also the Apexi induction kit is physically smaller. Hence why Kimi had to get rid of her blitz and get the apexi. I think thats what happened anyway.

Dont think there will be much difference between them.....however i would strongly advise you reposition it

, cos i have the apexi and without moving it i think its actually loosing me slight power all it is doing is sucking in hot air from my very hot manifold, so im going back to the standard induction system for the meantime untill i move the cone.

Let me know how you get on with the relocation

yep i've had both, i know you are not interested in sound but the Blitz

does sound better than the Apexi.Performance wise they are about the same.

The reason i swaped from Blitz to apexi was size,as i wanted to move my filter

to behind the headlight and the Blitz was just too big :crybaby:

The wiring does fit theres no need to cut it,you just cut a cable tie and the whole

lot was long enough.

There is no hot air behind the headlight at all just nice cold air:D

When you turn the Battery there is a large hole in the flitch panel, so nice cold

dry air comes in from under the wheel arch

The only problem was finding a secure place for the Battery to fit and extending the earth wires on the Battery.

kimi

does all the crap come from under the wheel arch too?

NO theres a liner under the wheel arch, and where the gap is does not get wet.

The Only thing i have to say is that the Blitz Sonic Power is the best 4 Performance and sound. It has a Heat shield built in. Although its a bit heavy and will need a aluminium piping converion cos the original pipe just bendsover. Blitz supply a clamp for it to neal on the Battery holder but mine snapped. So Any one got any ideas for aluminium intake piping? Blitz Rules in Performance. By the way i got a Blitz exhaust for yaris goin up soon on eBay will post link on forum once up.
