HELP

Can anyone help with a carina E , possible suspension / steering fault.

when you brake after moving forward there is a knocking, then when you accelerate after braking, you get the same knocking.

Checked the engine mounts, found nothing obvious, also a local mechanic has had a look and can find nothing wrong.the knocking is now driving me mad.

any help/ideas would be much appreciated.

Andy

Easy enough, your front drop links have gone. They are thin links that connect the front wishbone to the front anti roll bar. No serious damage done other than being noisy...after market replacements about a tenner each. Bugger to get off if the allen bolts slip. Resort to an angle grinder if all else fails.

Andy,

Beardie's probably right as the stabiliser/drop/anti-roll bar links are a common problem, and have been since day 1 for the UK built Carina E's.

To test them, just grab them and give them a few sharp tugs to see if you can feel any play.

A hint to help undoing the drop links is to slide the rubber boot back and clamp the exposed part of the joint with a small pair of mole grips. Usually works for me! I've not been unlucky enough to have to grind one off yet.

Hmm...now that I've said that... <_<

Rob.
