Cd Player Stopped Working?

Hi guys,

My missus Yaris SR's CD player has just stopped working. For no apparent reason, it now spits the disk out after about 10 seconds.

Tried cleaning it with a proper cleaning disk, but it's made no difference.

Is this a common fault? Is it easy to get the unit out to service? Looks like a !Removed!. :(

Answers on a postcard...

Loose connection maybe?

Unit is not too bad to get out.

Remove Surround for speedo, etc.

Undo screws holding on top part of centre console.

pull off two end heater knobs, and undo screws under them

Undo screws in coin tray (I think!)

Pull bottom centre console piece off.

There's a guide in the How to's section by Chappers with pics, if you can't understand my dribblings...

Mine has done this twice... both times it was a dodgy disc (scatched... not hooky, im a responsible, law abiding citizen who doesn't steal music or download viruses via the EVIL kazzaa!)

In response to service... it's easy to get out, i can do it in 2mins now! The best guide to use is the one about the stealth cd-changer install... the pics are really good on that one. Just check connections and stuff and try it, the yank it out and check the laser... if you can... use a white led bulb to look at the laser and that should show up the scatches. Even better is a can of compressed air!

Hi,

I had the same problem last year. Could not repair it though ! The repair shop said that maybe the lens was faulty and will have to get new ones. I preferred to get a CD changer (12 CD/VCD) from pioneer with FM modulator. U can keep yr original player for that.

Cheers

If you can get the unit out, take the top off it and clean the lens with a cotton bud and methylated spirits. While you're in there, put some 3 in 1 oil on a cotton bud and lightly wipe it on the chrome runners for the laser unit.

Doing this sorts out 95% of all cd problems.

The CD player on my SR started doing this about a month or two ago, it playes for about a minute tops and then stops and spits the CD out and then doesnt work for ages after that!
