Alarm Bonnet Switch Fix....

Some of you will be aware of a tendancy for your alarm to activate for seemingly no reason.

Thanks to info. I located in this forum the finger of suspicion points to the positioning of the bonnet alarm switch allowing the bonnet to move/flex with temp. changes and activate the alarm as if somebody has forced the bonnet.

(Cheers to ObanScott for this info. and the details of a potential cure)

Well this info. seems spot on....

I have effected a cure buy affixing a very small piece of plastic with double sided tape to the underside of the bonnet where the switch makes contact with the panel (You can see where this is as the switch leaves a very slight mark on the panel.

The plastic is approx 1 to 1.5 mm thick but it is sufficient to give the switch more movement thus then not being affected by the bonnet movement.

I have had no false alarm activations since carrying this out a week and a half ago (I was getting 2 or 3 per day at one point) and as there doesn't seem to be any way of adjusting the switch this seems to be the best solution.

It also looks quite neat and unless you know it was there you wouldn't really spot it was there.

Jobs a gud 'un........

What car was this off. When the snow came, what there was of it, on Friday I took my 4x4 mondeo to work as normal, and instead of taking the CTS my missus took the frontera. My 4x4 shooting shed. (I know I should hang my head in shame but hey so what). Any way back to the story. Got a phone call from a neigbour that the car alarm is going off. No one near ect ec. Went back hoem switched it off on off on. All Ok. Took it to work and all OK Was thinking that the car was just Jelous at being left at home :crybaby::crybaby: (as I have a labrador that also can do this). :ffs: .

This is only the second time this has happend and is alway when the car is left on the drive at home while we are out.

Will try the bonnet fix Thanks.
