Unable To Engage 4wd On 3.0d Auto

Please help! First problem with my Surf 3.0D Turbo Auto 1994. When I select 4WD nothing seems to happen. 4WD does not engage and 4WD light on dash does not come on. 4WD light stopped working about 6 months ago, but 4WD seemed to work OK. Thought it was just the light in the dash. But yesterday front hubs did not engage. Is there some maitenance required to free up a pair of solenoids that engage the drive to the front wheels? Where are they loacated and what is to be done?

Hi.

Having similar trouble with my LC Prado. It seems that the hubs can fail if recent work has been carried out to the brakes or wheel bearings, the brushes that operate the hub motors can get damaged or worn out. If you get someone to operate the hub lock button with the ignition on (engine off) you should hear the actuators working. Check for water damage ect and also check fuses!! Hope this helps...also in the process of eliminating!!!
