Reversing Bleeps

:help:

I have an 03 plate Celica with the annoying lorry reversing like bleep when i put into reverse.

Is anybody aware if it can be disabled?

That's about a £200 option!

But if you do want to disable it, just unplug the speaker.

Not sure if it's in the boot but... they normally work like this:

sensors mounted in back bumper

sensors are connected to the reversing light cable (only active when in reverse)

Sensors connected to little speaker

So you should be able to:

a) disconnect the speaker - sensor will still operate you just won't hear it

B) disconnect the power to the sensors from the reversing light cable

If it's factory fitted then there might be an easier way not sure???

It's not a sensor, at least i don't think it is

The bleeper will continue regardless whether i am near anything else!

That's a bit of a pain!

Is it just in the car that you can hear it or is it a loud noise outside?

Either way you are still probably best disconnecting the speaker!

If it's a loud noise outside then it would be as you say a reversing noise to warn little kiddies you are about to run them over.

If it's just inside the car it should be a reverse aid sensor thing, maybe it has one that's gone wrong??

That seems strange then  . You don't really need to be told you are reversing - so it should be a malfunctioning reverse aid?

If you wait past lunch time one of the Gen7 owners should see this post - maybe they can offer more assistance!

sotal, the gen 7 has a warning beeper (inside the car only) that is purely to warn that you have selected reverse. As it has a 6 speed box, reverse is next to first and it is quite easy to mistakenly get reverse when you think you are in first. The beeper always sounds when you are in reverse, it's not due to parking sensors.

I think the speaker is somewhere behind the dash, so it could be a pain to get to the wires, but disconnecting the speaker would be the simplist way to stop the sound.

there we go someone that knows what they are talking about!

atleast I was right with the solution

Would the wires not run from the gear stick? ie could you not lift the gear surround cover and unplug the wires from the sensor??

Just a thought!

About to say the same as MikeB.

Assuming your Celica does not have reversing sensors, it beeps whenever it is in reverse. I was told by the dealership as 1st and reverse gear are next to each other!!

are you sure you want to get rid of the beeps, it it hadnt been for them the first day i got my celica i would have reversed right into the car behind. i was stopped at a junction and accidently selected reverse, it could have been a disaster :censor:

My GT-R beeps in reverse too and it's an auto.

Slightly annoying but you get used to it. Wouldn't want to try and find the beeper though (was bad enough installing the stereo).

The beeping is identical to that found in the Lexus IS200.

So there you go, they even put it in their 'classy' cars :D
