I`ve got a 40mm drop on 16`s and have no probs apart from BIG speed humps which need a bit of respect.

15's on a 35 mm drop is very very low. 17's on 35mm drop is ideal.

i think you'l find the overall diameter is the same though! keep your tyres pumped up to 38PSI and you'l be fine

Surely as cookci says, 15's 16's 17's it makes no difference to the actualy ride hight of the car as you should be altering the tyre profile to keep the diameter of the wheel/tyre combo the same to ensure your speedo still reads corectly.

i have a 40mm spax drop, and indeed it is very low

if i am correct, 17 inch wheels and 40 profile tyres will give near enough the same rolling radius = same ground clearance

i would recommend new shocks though to stiffen it up nicely. while you are there a GT4 rear brace helps out nicely too.

btw i've got a set of brand new original toyota rear shockers for sale. pm me if interested ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

hello all, i have a 1989 gt gen 4, and am also thinking of bigger better wheels, and lowering.....after reading the opinions of everyone, i understand that by working out profile of tyre this will compensate for wheel size difference, so as to eliminate speedometer errors, but this wont change ride height........so if i then lower it by 30-40mm it will be quite low, hmmmm this will be easy enuff job i think?

wot sort off problems could i encounter?

cheers :D

you could also go for Tein S pro springs on standard shocks, if your only going 40mm max...but best to change both shocks and springs to feel the comfort...or else you may find your self bouncing a tad bit.
