hi guys

im sure you lot can answer these questions really easily :)

ive just bought a speed delimiter for my celica, im gonna fit it myself but the instructions arnt great, so can anyone show me where the speed sensor is located on a 2.0ltr engine

apparently its at the back of the engine on the drivers side, is it the brown plug just behind the oil filler cap?

im quite confident about fitting it, i just want to be 100% sure im in the right place before i start.

so a picture would be really nice :)

also, the instructions say it also coverts the speedo to mph, it didnt say this on the website when i ordered it.

thing is my speedo has a mph face stuck over the old one already, can i leave that on or do i have to peel it back off.

thankyou for reading

kaz

Hi Fella,

I take it that the Celica is an Import?

I cannot help with wiring the de-limiter but regarding the MPH converter I see a possible three outcomes. Leave the MPH face on as this is ok.

Scenario 1)

It came into the UK someone/Importer popped on the MPH face but did not add a KPH to MPH converter on and when your doing say 30 on the MPH face your really doing around 20 MPH

Scenario 2)

The importer converted via adding a MPH converter and your clock is as accurate as possible.

Scenario 3)

You now add this new converter to the clock if your car is in scenario 1 then you will have an accurate as possible MPH reading.

If however you are in scanario 2 and it has a converter fitted and you add a second one then it will read the MPH think its KPH convert it and when you doing say 30 you will actually be doing nearly 40 and speeding.

Find out who imported it and get them to confirm if they added a KPH to MPH converter to your car or alternatively when you find out how to wire the new delimiter have a look to see if you can see an existing converter fitted.

thx for that

yes its scenario 1

the importer told me that they just buy a new mph face and stick it over the old one, nothing else. so when i add the delimiter its gonna work fine :)

i can allways get a freind to clock me just to be extra sure.

the wireing itself looks simple, once i determine where the speed sensor is.

the instructions say

locate the speed sensor that is located at the rear of the engine on the drivers side and identified by having a 3 pin plug connected to it. disconnect this plug.

then it shows you the wireing diagram that looks easy enough, where you just tap into the original wires using scotch blocks or solder them.

but it doesnt actually say whether or not you plug it back in after, im assuming you do.

i guess i could phone the company but i was hoping that if i begged enough someone might post me a picture of exactly where it is :D

thx

If it has had the speedometer converted with just a new backing, moving the markings and numbers to read mph, then you will need to take this off the speedometer when you connect up you convertor box. Presumably your odo. is still counting up in km?

The speed sensor can't be located on the engine, as the road speed is dependent on what gear you are in. It must come from the gearbox. I don't know if the speedo is cable driven or electronic, but I suspect that it's electronic. Look on the gearbox for the sensor. If it is cable driven, the electric sensor is likely to be nearby.

I thought most people install these things behind the dash, rather than in the engine bay.

Asha might know more, I think she had one installed recently.

well it does say

model :toyota celica 93-99

converter : E002D

Location : Gearbox speed sensor

so it probly is on the gearbox, just threw me when it said

"locate the speed sensor that is located at the rear of the engine on the drivers side and identified by having a 3 pin plug connected to it. disconnect this plug."

but it does say the 3 wires are blue, blue/yellow and white/black which should help me

ive been searching for a haynes manual or similar, but cant seem to find one :(

never done one on a celica but on a supra you are looking for a plug on the gearbox that gives the signal back to the ecu to tell it how fast it is going. All the kit is , is a capicitor that makes it read slower hence the speed limit is raised. But the speedo will now read the kmh in mph. Hence you will have to remove the new mph face you put on. I might not be right here so dont want to say this is true.It depends on what kit you brought!!!! I no longer use these kits. We tend to re map the ecu and do away with the speed cut. But as we use motech systems you are talking 2 grand after mapping which is a bit extream if all you want is to break speed limit. My advice is leave it as it is and keep your license, or go full out and see 165 on your way home from mapping session.!! The other problem you get with cheap kits is that if you have progressive power steering, when you are doing a ton or so, the ecu thinks you are going alot slower hence your steering will be very light leading to a very easy spin out. Which is fine when your on a track with gravel track!! Check out JOKKOS.COM and have a look at the lexus pictures i used to teach people how to drive sideways in. Your car may end up looking the same :help:
