Hey Rubix,

I'm in the market for a Glanza (Don't worry not yours  ) and I know yours is kicking out some serious power.

What I was after is some info on what's been done to your engine, I've looked at your member info but don't know if that's up to date. To give me an idea what had been done to it when you got 168bhp, and whats been done to it since... I know from my sources that you're hoping to join the 200+ club

P.S. My source is my brother with the silver/blue s13 (stickers up the side  ~he bought it that way), said he was talking to you at the garage the other day whilst filling up on the good stuff

P.P.S Hope you dont mind another Glanza kicking about in a couple of months, I am looking for a white one, but do like black, and in the interests of being slightly individual may choose a dif colour.

Cheers for any info you may be able to give me.

Lo mate :) Your Bros SX is nice and Clean :) I aint done much mate... its gonna break the 200 barrier soon though ;)

Are we talking 200 at the fly or 200 at the wheels for a start.

You will really really struggle to get to 200hp with the standard turbo without alot of work.

Im looking for 200+at the fly as 200+ at the wheels and FWD is pointless. :)

And I have only got like 30bhp to go with the cat still there and (from what I can see) no fueling mods ;)

Well I think I'll probably go for the usual

Filter:

APEXi power intake (heard they're the best for performance as filters go)

Exhaust:

Go turbo back I think, am I right in saying the Glanza cat is in the downpipe so a turbo-back would be decat pipe and cat-back exhaust? anyone know of a good turbo back combination?

Electronic Gadgetry:

The usual gauges, I'd like to go electronic rather than mechanical. I' planning for the long term so I think that a good choice would be the APEXi Power FC, commander and Boost controller kit

Turbo:

I've got access to a t25 which I might look into puting on, but then I'd probably have to go for internals and a bunch of other stuff :(

Intercooler:

I like the thought of a FMIC, I know it will probably increase lag and such but it does look mean

internals:

Maybe...

It's a big (!Removed! expensive) wish list, but hopefully it'll all come in time. And yes I do like APEXi. Got a couple o'grand saved up the now, but thats also for insurance and wheels if I dont like the ones it comes with.

Think I've missed anything glaringly obvious that I've not thought about?

Right here we go :D

1. Suspension what have you got do this first before thinking about power good shock and springs are a must the best is probally D2 coilovers availble form Daveburwash on this site.

2. Brakes Pagid pads, braided lines, good fluid and 3G discs are a good combination.

3. Power :D

Go for good brands they will save you money in the long run.

Blitz make the best exhaust IMO.

To achive 200hp you will want to go away form the CT9 standard turbo a good option is Dales TD04 WRX turbo set up this is availble form www.braidedlines.com. The other option is a company over in OZ are offering a manifold which has the T2 flange this will allow the use of anything from a T25 to a monster like a GT28RS.

The standard internals will be good for 200hp so no worries there.

ECU now this is the very expensive bit the power FC is a good set-up but budget for £500 worth of mapping to get it set-up correctly.

Any more questions please ask alsp feel free to add me too MSN starletsy at hotmail dot com

Cheers for the info,

I was taking upgraded brakes and suspension for a granted, sorry. Been in enough rolly polly clios with standard suspension and 2.0l novas with no brakes to know they're needed :crybaby:

Have to admit I never counted on it being near £500 to get the management set up properly, knew it would cost a bit, but that might change my mind (does that include the ap engineering unit? they come with basic maps that just need tweeked do they not?). What would you suggest instead? Are there stage chips for certain stages of tune?

I've heard of hybrid ct9's running about 20psi, would you recommend this?

I'm just full of questions, but I like to be in the know about these type of things. Wouldn't like to buy a glanza then find I have to spend about 20k to get the thing as quick as I would like.

They make a great exhaust there is no denying it, however if you cant afford 600 on a CAT back system .... Sacha's WickedEP system gets good rap... Well I dont see much point in going above 200. But it would be cool to say i have a 200bhp 1.3

Well you've seen my spec just now, in the summer it will have these on it.....

WickedEP Full Turbo Back Exhaust

GReddy E-Manage

Supra TT Fuel Pump

330cc Injectors

GReddy Frount Mount

Exedy Paddle Clutch

Besides all that there'll be all the wee bits like blue hoses and shiny engine stuff :)

starletsy im using the CT-9 and it's fine cause i donnt wanna run anymore than a bar :)

200 flywheel bhp, what kind of losses will you be looking at by the time it gets to the wheels?

Anyway it'll still be a quick car mate!

I've read a lot about the WEPR systems on the GTTurbo forums and they sound like they're well made, and for the price you can't really argue, and shipping seems reasonable.

Hybrid'ing the ct9 might be a wasted effort, for the money... dunno though (these are the things I'm trying to find out). Suppose it's all relative, and unless somebody has had both and can compare...

Hoses and shiny bits are cool

Posted

Well the Starlets give an 18% transmission loss.... so around 160-170 at the wheels :)

Great, just about what I'd be looking for

Should easily keep up with a couple of my mates at least...

Posted

Well mine destroys ANY 2lt on the road. and stays with my mates Lancer GSR (1.8 216V Turbo) comfortably :)

Posted

Well my mates yellow st205 GT4 shouldn't be a problem, but the other 3 GT4's (now you know why I don't want one) are going to be monsters.

My mate Gordon's black st185 has recently been getting re-built, some serious stuff going into his, then there's Pauls orange st205, it'll be pushing some massive power hopefully and then my other mate Tommy who bought Pauls Carlos Sainz of him... they'll all be well above 350bhp easy.

Hopefully the black and orange GT4's should be ready for the jap performance day at crail, but don't think they'll be running them.

Is your mates GSR the black one that sits at the nissan garage in ayr a lot? That's a nice one.

Posted

Yeah it is indeed. Thats Ally, but it wasnt his I raced... my other mate has one in Killie.

I cant keep up wi my mates GT4 it just keeps pulling away form me but that cause he has 252bhp  not bad for an old H plate :P

As tody about Wicked EP exhausts :!Removed!:

Posted

The only thing i have been told about them is the centree section cracks where there should be a flexi pipe.

You have to admit mate 600+ GBP ius alot for an exhaust :S

Posted

You get what you pay for what use is an exhaust if it cracks due to poor design?

Posted

Even if you buy Sacha's exuast and get it modded it still leaves you more than 300+ GBP to play with instaed of a name. Im guessing you are one for having all the named stuff mate, Blitz, HKS etc.....

I dont like my HKS system as it is mild steel till the backbox and even then the backbox decided to fall to bits on my and the baffle choked until I had to phsyically rip it out. Sacha and the guys at WickedEP get some good reviews on the GTTurbo forum.. you can take the view of one person but there are more who are totally satisfied :)

Posted

well it's 252 at the fly, 4WD transmission losses are huge it's roughly 170 at the wheels.

orange GT4 you say? this would be the project previosly known as project tangerine??? :D can't wait to actually see it, only seen a photo on one of your mates phones at dumfries cruise months ago.

starletsy, you do get what you pay for but i have seen some work from WEP and the welds are almost seamless, when Rubix took his down pipe round to a 'custom' exhaust fitters they were drooling over the workmanship, so i'd say it's a safe bet that the rest of the system would be of an equaly high standard, after speaking to rubix about the system the only design flaw is that it is missing a flexi-pipe, that'll cost about £50 to put right at the most, still over £250 chaeper than the brand name system and i'll bet just as good.

the system i've got is the exact same as a blitz nur spec R except i got a full cat back system instead of the 2 rear sections that i would have got from blitz, sounds just as sweet and i still managed higher than average power output for the mods i've got and that was £300 delivered ;)

lobotomy, when it comes to mapping, £500 just for mapping isn't unbelieveable, where as mines cost me nothing other than a few tanks of fuel :P

there's lots of pro's and con's for each management system, there's alot of people critisising the PFC for it's lack of det protection and i know of one GT4 thats just had an engine falure because of this, but then he had a d*****(not wanting to name and shame) map in it.

i'm running an e-manage, rubix will be too soon enough, one bonus of running a piggy back system is that the ECU will !Removed! the timing if it senses knock unlike the PFC which just flashes a warning light, not alot of good if your on the open road giving it some or the 1/4 mile.

as for using the T25, i'm guessing it's from an S13, what you have to remember is that it's from a 1800cc engine, you might find the 1300 won't produce boost till very late in the rev range. from what i've seen of rubix's CT9 they produce boost very low down and can keep giving 1 bar all day long so unless you were going to get a full re-build with re-bore i'd stick with the standard unit, possibly hybridising if you fell it's not enough

Posted

Yeah that was my phone with Paul's car on it

The orange GT4 was taken a spin round the block last week... shouldn't be long now.

As for exhaust, I'm not too into names, just the quality associated with them. I have read a lot of good reviews for the WEPR systems so for the price I would seriously consider it, and if it does bugger up after a year or so... just get another one :D

Oh and btw, what do the WEPR systems sound like? I dont wanna sound like a 1200 nova with a tinny sounding back-box.

The turbo was really just a thought since my bro has a whole second car lying there (anybody want some bits for an s13?). I do like the sound of maybe just hybridisng the CT9, but I'm thinking that may come later rather than sooner.

I will look into the E-manage, weight it up against the PFC.

Cheers for the info.

P.S.

That Dumfries cruise was quite good. We dont usually go to things like that but just decided to do it since there was nowt else to do that night. Have to ask the question, was there anything actually worth buying in that redline shop...

Well the WEP exhaust sounds meaty as ****...... supposedly. I'll find out soon enough he he :P

I like meaty

DBMONSTERCHUNKS.jpg

"A meaty can" as it were

Just a side note, but on the point of loud exhausts:

My bro was a bit miffed when three times in as many days he went to overtake cars in the overtaking lane at a roundabout (with signals :P ) and the dicks decided to try and overtake aswell.... into the side of his car. Of course quick reactions and pure luck that there was nothing coming the other way meant he could swerve into the opposing lane. My point was that I can hear him coming a mile off when he's giving it the go pedal, and these dosy B*ds can't see/hear him when he's right next to them! :ffs:

hey all. I have the wepr system and yes it does sound very good. Just make sure Sasha sends you flexi pipe and gaskets when you order.

I noticed on your sig you've got one of their FMIC's coming aswell, what kind of pressure drop do they have across them? I've heard some intercoolers have a crap core (not suggesting these ones do) which can lead to a big pressure drop compared to some of the better named (and better designed ones)

Cheers
