Steering Problem

I have a problem with my power steering in that it is not working at all. Rather than order a new electrical pump which costs about £800 I would like some advice on other possible causes

If it's not the obvious like power steering fluid and it hasn't re-set itself, then likely as not you'll need to replace.

Mine was replaced under warranty at 18 months old and last year it packed up again so I went round to mrT's, by the time they came out to look at it, it had re-set itself, so all they did was note it incase it failed again, fortunately it's been ok (touch wood). But if it ever goes when the warranty runs out i'll probably troll the wreckers for one.

No, Ive checked fluid levels and fuses but was wondering whether it may be electrical relays, fault connection or something

You could try checking the electrical feed to the PS pump, if it doesn't show any then try tracking back to relays etc. If it does show power and the motor is running then the pump is more than likely brolloxed, if it has power and the motors not running then it's still gonna be expensive :(

Thanks.  I'll check that.  What exactly do you mean by "reset itself" ?

If you turn the ignition off then restart, the system can re-set any overload faults that have occured.

If yours just stopped suddenly without warning and never restarted then try the electrics.

Hope it's a cheap repair
