Not the best photo I've ever taken, I admit, but it's start. It's cold here, I'm tired and got loads of housework to do so I just shoved the camera out of window and snapped my new possession!

Picked her up on Friday evening at 5.30. After dinner at my Mum's, I drove back to the Wirral, already dark. First impressions... more 'grown up' ride than my old 1 litre. I was worried about a rattle at the front that sounded like the windscreen was about to pop out until I stopped at some lights and removed from the glove compartment, the box containing locking wheel nut key and original four wheel nuts. Sorted!

Probably fill up my camera's memory card with pics of her at Easter when I'm on holiday! Now need a name for her. Two syllables, possibly Japanese. Got a few ideas but other suggestions welcome (calling TOCON, please?). Oh and yes, sorry about the parking!

Edit: After some discussion with Demonic Angel, our TOCON, the car has been christened youki which is Japanese for 'ghost'.

TOCON calling!

Thats a great looking car Al - I bet you're well chuffed! I love it! Its great to see a Thunder Grey Yaris other than a T-Sport - finally!:thumbsup:

As for names - I've got some corkers for you!

Staying with the Thunder Grey theme.... hows about....

Nariko - "Thunder"

Raidon - "Thunder God"

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks, Em but not lighting my candle yet. Isn't the second one a radioactive gas (Radon)?

Shes a her then I gather? :D

lol ok - so those dont float your boat - what sort of name would you like - what do you want it to portray?

Tried searching for the meaning of Alan, which is handsome, cheerful & noble - but no Japanese names mean any of those....

I thought of Akina & Gen - both are Japanese - Akina means spring flower and Gen means spring - as its almost Spring!

Or Hana, which means flower, blossom

The only other one I thought would be cool is Suki, which means beloved.

If those still dont tickle your fancy - give me some ideas and I'll see what else I can come up with - we cant have your gorgeous new car going nameless - its just not right! :D :D

Hmmm well I had to check this so dug out an old brochure...Thunder Grey is marketed as being unique to the T-Sport...now if they are starting to use it on other models...well it's no longer unique.

Maybe a case here to go back to Toyota and claim you went for this car due to it's limited avalaibility and limited colour..and now they have gone against that...

Yer, what's up with that. Did you buy it new? If so, did you have to pay a lot for the colour?

Yes it's brand new and the car actually costs less than a T3, well it does until you throw air con and a spoiler at it but even they're discounted. Nothing more for the colour. It's available in five metallic colours, Thunder Grey, Carlo Blue, Twilight Blue, Crystal Silver or Eclipse Black.

I think its great they are including it in the Colour Collection line up!

Dont forget - the Colour Collections will be limited editions so its not like there will be many non-T-Sport Thunder Greys about!

Well this is only the second one I've seen so far and the other was the one in the showroom. I'll see hundreds of them on the way to work on Monday, after saying that!

I do sympathise (a bit :P ) with T Sport owners as thunder grey had been an exclusive colour. Companies always reserve the right to amend specifications though. I know this only too well when Apple upgraded to a new OS just after I'd bought my computer. Their response to my complaint was polite but amounted to a wordy version of "tough".

It does, however, mean that I could buy (at a price I could comfortably afford) a new version of the model of my choice in the colour I wanted, so I naturally jumped at it!

I'm going to be having words with Mr T...limited edition or not, Thunder Grey was marketed as being UNIQUE to the T-SPORT brand.

It's just the same as say selling limited edition car with particular features..then a year or so later make them as standard...

one for trading standards possibly.

There is bound to be something somewhere that states that Toyota reserve the right to change their mind about colours or specifications at any time without prior warning.

It may have been marketed as unique to T-Sport, but Toyota can change their mind about that at any time.

Same as they can discontinue colours at any time - yeah I was annoyed they stopped the Balearic Blue - but theres no point complaining about it (even though I do! lol) because its Toyota right to do that.

I can understand why your miffed Vipes, but I dont think theres much you can do about it.....

This is a bit of a bad comparison really, but it's like games thnat get released 'Exclusively' for PS2 and the come out on the Xbox 6 months or so later. Times change, Toyota have done it becasue I imagine that there is a high demand for Thunder Grey Yarii. What you're saying is what i might say if they brought out a carlo blue t-sport. But i the end of the day, I wouldn't really care!

Hmm if you look at Toyota's site now..indeedie they mention the colours avalaible to all models..they no longer mention the T-Sport brand like they used to.

Probably won't be long then before you see the 1.5 engine's cropping up everywhere, same with al lthe trims.

It's just that you choose something a little different and then they change their minds and mass produce them, probably goes for the statue I've got...1 of 500 , and they think...hmm they sold well...lets make some more!

I'm not too bothered actually..but annoying none the less.

Think I'm gonna complain to Mr. T....

"I've just bought a new colour collection 1.3 Yaris in Thunder Grey. I thought it was an exclusive limited edition. Now I find all these T Sport owners have cars in the same colour!"

A fine looking car Mr Jones ;)

Quit whinging T-Sport owners - the Thunder Grey colour has been available for the resor of the range in other countries since at least last summer. My folks have a Yaris in France and it's Gris Racing, but it looks darned like Thunder Grey to me :P

Cheers, Alan.

Out of curiosity while I was waiting for my car, I had Google Alerts email findings under "thunder grey yaris". It came up with a lot of T Sports for sale but other Yarii as well. Bit surprised by that really.
