I have bought two front shock absorbers. However I have not been able to get them fixed.

Yesterday I took it my local garage but he could not find easy access to the top bolts for the absorbers. He actually has been a good mechanic so far.

He told me that the entire dashboard has to come off. Therefore it is a big job as well as electrical, he advised me to take it to Toyota main dealer. Well since I have been well robbed off with this car I have not got any penny left to spend any more.

Would any body be so kind as to tell me how difficult is to change them. Can I do it my self? I am a good DIY if you believe. Is it really true that the entire dashboard has to come off in order to change the front shocks? I don’t think so because it is soo ridiculous.

Thank you thank you thank you allllll.

Hi DRKOK

no need dashboard to be taken out.

First: inside the glove compartment (passangers side) there is a sqare-ish panel pull it of with the screwdriver gently and you will see 3 nuts of the upper mounting.

secondly: (drivers side) take out the screws on the panel below the steering where the hud unlock lever is to gain access to another three nuts of the right upper mounting.

same nature of problem i had.

Steve

because i am a DIY person in automechanics it cost me only the parts.

Rear shocks at Nipparts were £35+VAT each,

front shocks bought as a second hand somwhere in Slough £45 each with spring and uppermounting.
