Remote Central Locking Fob

Hi there,

I bought my very first toyota the other day, and I have to say I'm very impressed. It's an N reg Corolla Sportif SE.

It has central locking, but did not come with a remote central locking fob. Is it possible that I could buy such a fob to activate remote central locking, or is this not availble??

I've seen these universal remote central locking kit type things on eBay, but it looks complicated to fit.

Hope you can help

Cheers

Well it depends on what paperwork you have for the car. Cars with remote fobs all most always have a little thingy (on newer Toyotas its a little piece of plastic/cardboard with a number stamped into it, which fits on a keyring) with a serial number for the locking system. You can then go into a stealership and offer them one arm and one leg and they should be able to order you a new fob or fobs.

However, these key code things are very easy to loose and often do get lost, in which case you may be able to still purchase new fobs, or you may end up having the stealer tell you that you would need all new locks and a brand new remote locking system :(

Cheers for the advice,

I guess I'll stick to normal central locking the old fashioned way, until I eventually get a newer model

Probably worth checking with a dealer what the state of play is - one of the better dealers should be able to tell you where you can find the locking serial number, and how much a new remote fob would cost. I don't know, but I would guess that it wouldn't be less than about £50 for one though, even if you can find your serial number, but I'm really just guessing so best to check with the people who know!
