THIS COUNTRY IS CAMERA CRAZY

I hate them putting them at crash spots ... ok nice excuse. But monitoring over long distances ... that’s just spoiling our fun

As bad as that is the congestion charging cameras that the ***** mayor set up at the end of my road and so making I pay to leave my flat and go home to my parents place! I HATE him. But there is suggestion that they may enlarge this system to sections around the country from motorways to national parks

GREAT... so we are going to be charge to move about and if we accidentally go over 70

WHY 70 how stupid... I believe I am right in saying that the reason is due to tests done on a family ford in 1960s when will these people wake up and lift the limit???

There is one solution cut them downand take them away, thats what a guy who lives in a village near me did after he was flashed by a GATSO

Hi exon16m

Well i've got to agree with you mate. The speed limit was based on a bloody old car in the 60's. Newer and more modern cars can now stop in a more quicker time and there fore is far more safer to drive than a bloody 1960 cortina.

Britain has gone crazy with the speed cameras all around the country. It's just a way to get more money in for the government. I remember the guy who invented the speed camera said that he invented the camera to assist the police in road side accidents. He quoted if he had known that they where going to be used in such a way he wouldn't have invented them?

I think in some case's they are a hazard. As you are to busy driving along watching your speedo all the time trying to keep the speed down and not concentrating on the road a head. Think about it? It's true!!!!!!!

One thing that you have to remember is that it is not just car abilities that have to change...

Driver training in general is crap, there are a lot of drivers out there who plain and simply can't drive, take Britain's worst driver' for example, there are so many poeple out there just like them that have a license and believe they are good drivers.

I think speed camera's are a good idea in general it is just that they chose to install them in places where accidents don't happen as often as other and the police can make a quick buck, that's where I have a problem....

Here's my two pennies worth of the argument.... If road safety was really an issue...all cars would be incapable of going over say 80 mph. They would be incapable of going from 0-60 in the time it takes a gnat to pass wind. There'd be no need for cameras...gone would be the high speed pursuit.... there'd be no jack rabbit starts from the lights.. as your motor would just be "not allowed" to accelerate hard. It would cut down on traffic jams----major cause is people braking...the person behind braking slightly harder...and on..until everything grinds to a stinking halt for no other reason than someone hitting the brakes un-necessary.

Gone would be the high pollution...gone would be the road rage...gone would be the racers....not eactly a race when it takes 20 seconds to hit 60, and 20 mph later your at your top speed. Oh how easy this would be to implement...of the 5% or so you mess with their motors to remove this "performance" restriction would immeditaly be stripped of their license... but what a boring f$%king place the roads would be!

Right back to fitting the Stage 3 Super charger kit and the go faster stripes!

I agree its not speed but inapropiate use of speed that kills. But you have to agree it would save more lifes making tests and public infomation better.

The way to make roads safer would be to fine people for being in the wrong lane on the motorways and so meaning you have no option but to undertake them. why dont they make a camera that flashes people who drive too closley to the car infront... now that dangerous driving.

what about doing compulsary retests every 5 or 10 years ... it would get rid of the worst drivers (however i am sure the DVLA would turn that into quite a money spinner)

Trouble is...there is no "wrong" lane on the motor way for cars. If i'm doing 70mph sat in the outside lane...then so be it... i'm driving within the speed limit...therefore I can't be passed...because you'd be speeding. and breaking the law..etc etc etc etc.

Your only saying that people should pull into the inside lane..so you can get passed. or be fined....just as I would... so I intend no offense. We are all human,...we are all individual...we all want to be in front of the guy infront!! It's human nature and competition..survival of the fittest. ... bur yes...some people should just NOT be allowed out onto the public highway we've all seen it..!!! besides..I'm sick of all those guys slowing me down on the way too work..how dare they be on the road at the same time as I am!

Highway Code 164 - Keep in the left-hand lane unless overtaking.

Bacially you could be prosecuted for driving without consideration for other road users whether doing 70mph or not.

My major pet hate are drivers who are not courtous on motorways. :censor:

Im doing 90mph, your doing 70mph, move! :D

90% of accidents are human error. Better training is the only answer, its not cars that do the damage but some of the idiots behind the wheel.

Some form of IAM training should be manditory.

The MAC (http://www.macdrivertraining.co.uk/frameset.htm) driver training provided with every CTR purchased is an excellant idea!

Another thing that pisses me off... lorries that stray out of the lorry lane especially when there is traffic. Just because your Speedo reads 59 there is no need to overtake the lorry in front, especially when another lorry is trying to overtake you

LORRIES KNOW YOUR PLACE !!!

Also viper it was my understanding that the extra lanes to your right are for overtaking and so technicaly no one should be in them all the time. Iam sure they dont have an excuse

whilst bitching ... whats with police driving alond at 65 ... it just causes jams because many dont have the courage to overtake (Its not smart and not funny)

Im with ya on the lorries :arrgg-matey:

Its really funny when u see people following a cop car on the motorway doing 65 too scared to go past. Ive over took them when they were doing 70. Its far more obvious if u were coming up doing 80 and have to pull in behind him. :P

Just crawl past at 2-3mph faster until a safe distance then off u go again :D

few interesting points made....

outside lane at 70, as jps said, you should always stay left unless overtaking...

im doing 90, you 70 move - if traffic allows agree, if there is place to move safely into the left hand lane then you should already be in it even if nothing is behind.

lorries know your place - I think themajority of lorry drivers are more clued up on the roads than the large majority of car drivers, they also need to overtake and just because there vehicles don't move as quickly as ours (also restricted by a lower national limit) it doesn't mean they don't have the right to overtake, albeit slower.... The number of times I've been saved by lorry drivers is unbelievable. Best exmaple was stuck ina traffic jam for 3 hours after someone in front had a smash, when traffic started moving my car wouldn't start and was stuck in the dark in the outside lane with nutters screaming past as they were pee'd off with having to sit for a couple of hours, noone batted an eye-lid, not even the poliec who where a hundred yards up the road, we had some very close misses..... Big R Lorry Driver spotted me a mile away and while was fighting on the phone with the RAC (2 hour call out time) he pulled safely accross all three lanes of the motorway blocking it so it was safe and then pushed me to the hard shoulder while Iwas still on the phone to the RAC I didn't get a chance to get out of the car.....

I have never been so grateful to anyone in my life....

My pet hate is middle lane drivers !! I drive a lot on the motorway and I hate it when there they are sitting in the middle lane whilst the left lane is empty WHY !!! I don't drive slow usually about 80 -90 most of the trip but I still move to the left lane when possible.

There is a streach of lane on the A13 that is two lanes and still the morons drive in the over taking lane so I end up having to undertake, if you flash them to move over they just dig their heels in and won't move !!! Saddos or what.

I also think th espped limits should be put up on the motorway when doing a long trip I usually stick to about 80 as I find this a comfortable crusing speed and the car seems to like it 70 is just to slow for a motorway (mind you I do go about a ton on shorter trips )

One problem with the inside lane is that lorries tyres leave such a large indentation in the road if your in a car with hard suspension you can quite often start railroading which is never good....

I have to admit I do tend to stay middle if noone is coming but will always move left if I can 'when' something is coming up my behind (god I hate it when that happens)....

Agree speed limits should be upped on Motorways but only after driver training has been improved....

A big thankyou to Rhaines for acknowledging that the lorry driver is probably more clued up than most car drivers.

I drive a lorry and I,m not always perfect, but i try to be. Yes we are big and slow but we do have a right to be on the road the same as everyone else. Also we can see danger ahead quicker than car drivers cos we are so high up. :D

Most car drivers wait until they are into the danger area b4 they brake and then its too late !!!!!:o I see it every day.

And another thing, who is most likely to take pity on u when u r waiting to get out off side roads when everyone else is ignoring u ? :YES the trucker!!!!!

I agree with the rest of you guys, I was just pointing out the issues from the other side of the fence. I'm not a boring old !Removed! with flat cap yet!

but what's this about a lorry lane??? there is no lorry lane...just as there is no "slow" lane or "fast" lane. The only thing lorries can't do is use the outside lane. Regarding loory drivers though..next time your on the motorway...watch how many times they have to break compared to cars...... they are experienced..they travel thousands of miles a week, they do watch the road well ahead ( not many check their mirrors like...!)

unlike the majority of car drivers who are always on the brakes...

As for middle lane drivers...sure I hate em...but picture yourself..always pulling in to the inside lane when it's free.then overtaking the next lorry...then pulling back in..then over taking the next lorry....it's all this unnecessary lane changes that cause accidents...is it not better to stay in the middle lane? You know yourselves that if you pull in to the inside lane...you'll have to slow down get stuck behind a truck..and no bugger will let you out again as there all driving up each other's *****'s.

However this extends to the outside lane...if your travelling faster than everyone else...you don't want to be moving back and forth between lanes...hence everyone ends up staying permently in the outside lane!

as I said we all want to be in front of the other car!

and as someone said...there's no such thing as accidents only cause and effect.

Is it a legal requirement for speed camera vans to be marked?

I saw a big plain white van with cameras but no marking and no warning signs for the speed cameras. It wasnt a dvla tax van as they are clearly marked.

I'm pretty sure they don't have to marked in any way at all....

It doesn't have to be marked...but it has to be visible.

Same goes for the police pointing their "hair dryers" at you..they have to be visible and not hiding in the bushes...or it's entrapment....one of the reasons why they now have to paint all the speed cameras yellow...and not hide them behind signs/trees. Depending on the actual speed limit they enforcing, is related to how visible they need to be and from what distance. I think 40mph was something like 100 yrds visibility.
