Hilux Problems

I recently bought a 1989 Hilux 2.4d. Its got 150K miles on the clock but the engine seems in good condition. The problem comes after its been running for about 20 miles / half an hour when it feels as though its losing power it then stops altogether. If its then left a few minutes it will restart and carry on for another mile or so before dying again. As my commute to work is about 23 miles this can make the last couple of miles unpredictable! This is my first diesel so I'm not sure where to start looking.

next time it breaks down remove the fuel filler cap then try it with it removed. if its ok you've got a blocked vent to the tank somewhere. let me know what happens.
