Thinking about buying a Celica for my next car but im just wondering what the worst points to them are? What do you look for when purchasing one?

Forgot to add im not clued up on Celica's yet so its the one with the dual circular lights. around N reg. which is 96-97? How old does this model span? when was it discontinued?

Thanks for any pointers or experienced inspired advice!

Cheers Jam

spans from 1993 in japan until 1999 , and 1994 until 1996 in the uk . no real bad points, opt for the 2 litre 3sge engine around 173 bhp .you could also search the celica threads as this has been answered 1000's of times already.if you want real speed go for the gt4 model .

So is there no known notoriuos problems on the Gen 6 Celica?

I have a bit of a problem with oil disappearing, but it isn't a common fault - not heard of anyone else with this problem. Toyota say it's not a problem and the amount used is within operating figures (probably a load of b0ll0cks). The new Honda Civics are supposed to use 1 litre of oil every 1000 miles though

Truely it has to be said that they are an excellent car

Are you right with what you said before Marc about UK gen 6's only being about from 94-96?? I'm sure i have seen UK 99 models??

clutches, Wheels bearings and suspension all tend to go at about 100,000 and cost a decent amount to get sorted. Antiroll bar bushes will need replacing almost straight away u buy a gen 6 but thats no biggy as they are only about £10!

Another fact to consider is, that there is a facelift model which came out in 1996. This had the following changes (that I know of):

Clear indicators

Different front bumper (seperate holes for fog lights)

Bonnet spoiler - to stop the bonnet flexing at high speed

Rear Spoiler changed and now has a leg in the middle as well as the end

And interestingly I found out the other day one of the biggest changes was in reaction to customer complaints - and that was that they added a load of soundproofing to make it virtually silent inside the car. So that may be why quite a few people with the pre-facelift models complain of a few noises here and there??
