Can anyone tell me what insurance group the beams mr2's are?

any info pics would be appreciated!

CB

same as an import G-limited.

better than the rev4/5 Na as it's got more poke, but quite rare (1000 cars or something).

They look the same as any rev5 MR2, but with the red top Beams engine ..

Wish I'd got one instead of my UK rev5 :(

One of the things that put me off looking for one was that I'd guess that the 200bhp would make the insurance quotes a lot higher. Infact I recently did online quotes and found that the difference between a Jap NA rev5 and a UK rev5 the same as the difference between a Jap NA rev4 and a UK rev4  It seems that insurance companies don't know about the 200bhp :)

Now I REALLY wish I'd got one :crybaby:

Sorry to be ignorant.

I don't think it's that great per £ you'd spend on it (especially compared to the gains you'd get from a 3S-GTE), it's just that you're starting with 200ps (197bhp) rather than 158-173bhp (depending on revision).

But that power from an NA just rocks :)

None of that nasty turbo boost kicking in - mid bend

Dont put me off getting a turbo conversion!

The 4th gen JDM 3SGE (vvti) ~ 200hp, 21.0kg-m of torque. (beams.....MR2 has the red head, Altezza the black head) There was only ever 1000 MR2 beams motors made.

Jeff keeling from MR2OC has one (very nice too).

I remember a couple of years ago he was having difficulties with modding the engine. On this ocasion it was fitting an induction kit, the car just wasn't having it. It wasn't that it couldn't be physically fitted, it was that the car wasn't running very well after fitting. I think the ECU had something to do with it.

If you need to know anything about the beams it's best to contact him as I doubt very many people will know much more about the Beams than him

I was looking at information on the internet and came across a 1993 mr2 with a beams engine transplant, with theese modifications!

Engine:

1999 3SGE VVTI BEAMS engine, rated at 200bhp

HKS plugs

Apexi induction kit, custom induction pipe.

Custom 2.5inch straight through downpipe and exhaust with twin 4.5 inch exit, decated.

Aircon removed.

Skimmed flywheel and uprated clutch (not sure what make it is, didnt note it when the engine was transffered).

And he said this about the performance!

Performance, safe to say its over 200bhp, close to 215bhp 0-60 5.9-6secs top speed indicated on a private airfield 150mph with still some left

Does this sound correct to you?sounds a little optimistic to me as a standrd tubby does it in 5.2(i think)

Anyone know the 0-60 times on a standard beams 98-99 mr2?

Thanks

That does sound optimistic. That tubby figure (5.2) is for the more powerful rev 3 engine too. I'd say it'd be more like 6.3-6.8 area with those mods.

I'm sure someone knows the exact figures.

I'd say those figures are quite possible for the Beams engine, my N/A has 158bhp and does 0-60 in about 7.7 secs. That beams has an extra 60bhp which could easily drop the time to around 6 secs. It must be very nice and quick to drive.

Matt at Rogue Systems had a beams engine for sale abit back, they should know alot about them.:thumbsup:

Few facts:

This 3s-ge BEAMS VVT-i "Red Top" version is generation 4 of 3s-ge and was available in few models sold only in Japan - Toyota MR2 G and G-limited, Celica ST202 SS-II and SS-III and Caldina.

This 2.0-liter 3S-GE BEAMS engine with VVT-i( Variable Valve Timing-intelligent ) produce 200 horsepower and 21.0kg-m of torque.

Turbo'd Beams VVT-i 3SGE was used in TTE FIA WRC Corolla, but 80 % parts of engine was modified.

There was also "Black Top" version with dual VVT-i which produce 210ps/7600 rpm, this engine was in Altezza.

This engine is used in Japan in Formula 3!

graph.jpg

BEAMS = Breakthrough Engine with Advanced Mechanism System

VVT-i = Variable Valve Timing - intelligent

Inside diameter x process (mm×mm) = 86.0×86.0

Aerodynamic volume displacement (cc) = 1998

Compression ratio = 11

The highest output (ps/rpm) = 200/7,000

Largest torque (kg-m/rpm) = 21.0/6,000

Speed change ratio

1st gear = 3.285

2nd gear = 1.960

3rd gear = 1.322

4th gear = 1.028

5th speed = 0.820

Retreat = 3.153

Deceleration ratio = 4.176

Helica LSD

As for the 0-100 time..buggered if I could find that, seems not many people drag them.
