Bonnet Respray?

My car colour is 'Silver Steel' and there is the inevitable annoying stone chip right in the middle of the bonnet ! This looks black against the steel colour and is now very noticeable. I checked with a national company that repairs stone chips, and the reply was that silver is the worst possible colour for repairing and because it is on a flat surface , the bonnet, it can not be successfully touched in and would require a full bonnet respray !!*?? They said the touch up sticks would be useless and look even worse.

£235 for a stone chip ????

Any suggestions on how to successfully fill in this chip or a more economical way to deal with this would be more than welcomed.

Iwonder if toyota or anyone else for that matter still makes the self adhesive paint sticker(ITS THE ONLY WAY TO DESCRIBE IT!) I had one in an old toyota, that if you had a stone chip or scratch, you just cut it to size and as it was so thin you could hardly notice it.

Otherwise Chipaway or Dentaway are companies we use around south wales. There used to be a guy called Mr Chips, but I havent seen him araound lately. They are brill!

I have some of the Toyota touch-up tape in my glove box.

Anyone know the correct way to apply it ?

I'd be interested to know as well. Used it a few times but never been able to make tiny bits of it car wash proof.

The respray on the bonnet is probably right for chippings to bare metal though. I had a chipping gouge the middle of the bonnet in the Corolla and it was impossible to fix it decently. Waited till I had a few more then got a pro spray done and it was worth it in the long run.

I never got a paint strip with this one so I have bought a touch up kit from the dealer for £4. But deep down, I know you are right and eventually I will have to get a respray. If only I would stop noticing it !!!!!! lol

It's like one of those little mouth ulcers that feels like a volcano! :) :D

I sympathise, every time you go to the car your eyes are drawn to it like a magnet. Probably no-one else notices.

£235 looked a bit steep for a bonnet respray - £150 - £200 max would be more like it even from a reputable place.
