Modifying Corolla Gti-16

Hi Guys,

Looking to modify my currently standard Corolla GTI-16 (it currently has an exhaust and induction kit).

I am looking at upgrading my CAM for a kent super sport item and have been told I will need to upgrade my injectors and FPR (fuel pressure regulator) however I need to know the following:

a. Which model of injectors do I need to upgrade to.

b. Where can I buy a set of these

c. What FPR model do I require

d. Where can I get this

I am also thinking of doing the head (ie getting it flowed, ported etc) should I be looking at bigger valves or are the standards up to scratch ?

Thanks in advance,

Webb

Hi there and welcome,

With regard to 'modifying' your GTi try a firm called Fensport at...

www.fensport.co.uk

Beware before you start purchasing/modifying of them check prices before as they do have a reputation of charging more than Toyota Main agent prices.

However they are very helpful when it comes to advice whether you are purchasing of them or not.

you can go up to a 272' fast road cam without changing your injectors and the fuel pressure regulator is basically a way of making the hole to the return fuel line smaller so the fuel backs up in the rail and is there under more pressure so it squirts faster, the ECU will ensure the correct amount of fuel gets delivered anyway so they are really not that 'needed' and provide little, if anything in the way of performance gains, you'd be better off having your stock injectors 'sonically' (sp ?) cleaned where they blasting sound frequencies at them to remove any build up, which is a much better investment.

I was thinking of going for a kent supersports cam, this is a 290 deg model so therefore I really need to up the injectors... i've checked on fensports but cant see any injecters, only the pressure regulators and pump....

ideas ??

Hi Guys,

Looking to modify my currently standard Corolla GTI-16 (it currently has an exhaust and induction kit).

I see you have the later spec GTi (non-TVIS). Just curious as to what induction kit you've fitted and what you have done with the air sensors?

I only ask this as I bought a K&N for my late spec GTi (now sold to fellow TOC member). There was no facility for the kit to accept the air sensors - so didn't bother fitting it. I also spoke to K&N about this and they said they wouldn't recommend using a kit without the sensors being utilised properly...

Have K&N induction kit, its mounted above the gearbox with a small hole cut into the rubber in the back of the kit which the temp sensor fits into.... easy :)

System - G.

there are Two K&N kits available, one for non-tvis and one for it. The product code escapes me though one is something like 57-115 ? dunno.

Aaahh mate I went through this all in great detail a month or so ago.

The 57-0115 is designed for the early spec GTi with the resonators on the air intake hose. The filter has a hole in the rear to take the air temp sensor - no problem.

They used to manufacture a kit for the late spec engines, but had problems with air temp and air flow so removed the kits from manufacture and stock.

But on later spec cars there is no resonator on the intake hose and there is an aditional airflow sensor (in the form of two components - a thin hose and an electrical sensor with blue connector). Some people leave these hanging loose in the engine bay or strapping them to side of the filter - not good as air flow is monitored incorrectly and dirt and moisture can get sucked up through the thin hose causing damage to the engine.

K&N do not recommend the use of the 57-0115 kit with the late spec engines. I spoke to the R&D department who confirmed this and said the information on their website is wrong. The R&D department did say that one could use the kits on engines being raced and stripped and re-built on a regular basis - but not for road use.

Make of it as you will. I wasn't prepared to fit an incorrect kit to my car. I have now swapped the 57-0115 with a 57-0063 for the MKI.
