Gen 5 Gti Performance Manifold Needed

Gen5GT

Can anyone help please? I need a performance manifold for a Gen 5 GT.

I have been trying to replace my manifold to head gaskets and in doing so have discovered that Mr T have the WORST design engineers in the world, on this car at least as it's held in place by more brackets, braces and bolts than any exhaust manifold/downpipe could possibly require. It took me less time to remove the manifolds from my R32 GTR which there were two of, they were on the side of the engine in a much more cramped engine bay, with two turbos attached and a much larger 4" aftermarket exhaust on the other end.

Anyway while trying to undo the downpipe from the manifold itself I discovered one of the three bolts is virtually impossible to get to. I managed to get to it but because it's also in the stupidest place on earth for attracting dirt, water etc it was so badly rusted I've only managed to get it half way open and it's now rounded off. If I can't get it out of the manifold without an angle grinder I'm going to need to buy a replacement manifold and I don't intend to put the same stupid design of standard manifold on my car again.

Can someone PLEASE help me and tell me where I can get an uprated one? PLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAASE :eek::help::crybaby:

I think I know the bolt you're talking about. Couldn't get it undone either, so I removed the c/head with the manifold and brackets still attached. I reassembled it with the manifold and head bolted together.

I don't know of any aftermarket manifolds. Probably because the stock one is so good, it can't really be improved upon. I think all those extra brakets are there because it's quite heavy and could stress the head under vibration.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :!Removed!:

Unfortunately I'm only trying to remove the manifold itself in order to replace the gasket that fits between IT and the head. I definately don't want to be replacing the head gasket as well just yet. I think I've decided to cut the bolt so that the downpipe drops away from the manifold and the manifold can be removed. Then I'll need to drill the bolt out and tap and die a new one for it. Also going to have to source the gasket for the manifold to downpipe now and I don't even want to imagine what that will cost considering what the manifold gaskets cost me.

dude, its only a gasket - wait til your engine seizes, thats something to winge about.

lmfao been there mate think I'll pass thanks. I do have to admit though it is the stupidest possible design I've seen out of any of the engines I've worked on. I won't go through the list but it ranges from a 1.6 CVH from a ford (Easiest engine in the world to work on IMHO) to a 5.3 V12 out of a Jag and a 2.6 twin turbo out of the liner. This is so far the most difficult and annoying engine I've had to do anything to. lol

I've not been well recently so it's probably annoying me more than it would usually because I'm not as capable of working on it as I would if I were 100% if that makes sense? ie more annoyed at myself than the car.

Anyway I'll sort it.

Just realised you are talking about the exhaust manifold. I originally thought that it was the inlet you were trying to remove. The exhaust manifold is a piece of cake in comparison.

Sorry. :ph34r::bye:

Well it's pretty much done now. Had to heat the nut in question up to the point that it was glowing red, then orange then yellow/white so that when I whacked the socket on the nut was at virtually melting point and the socket could re-shape it. Have now removed the nut and sourced a replacement from some of the nuts and bolts that are left over from the skyline and now just waiting for Mr T to get the gaskets in for the downpipe to manifold flange. Should be picking said gaskets up tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon the car should be running again for the first time without a blowing exhaust. :D

My old Gen 4 had a cast iron exhaust manifold, my current Gen 5 has a tubular 4-2-1 fabricated manifold (stock) which presumably would give a performance gain over a cast one?

Sorry assumed you knew as most people on here do that I did have a Nissan Skyline R32 GTR and I've been breaking it to sell as parts so have quite a few nuts and bolts left from that.
