ive just come over from my gf's to my home, i was changing from 4th to 5th went down a bit of a hole, slipped, put it in third bounce made me drop clutch... :crybaby: i was quickly alarmed my the screaming and the rev needle bouncing off the edge of the guage about 2000rpm past the rev limiter. well my foot has never moved so fast! boof clutch in, into 5th. heart beating then a quick look for chuncks of casing bouncing down the road.......... very lucky. i dont come that way home much and next time i will be very weary of that little hole...............

Haha Chris, trying to put VMail's rev limiter breaking abilities to shame, eh? :P Them holes in the roads are well and truly annoying though.

Don't worry about the engine, it'll take it without problem. She does scream nicely though when you take her up to 8000 rpm. ;)

Yves.

oh im not overyly worried, just made me jump :P

pmsl about vmail!! :D

the screaming reminded me of the civic type R honda were stupid enough to lend me for the day :D

yves is there any way of seting the rev limiter higher? or will it not make a difference because of the gearing?

i remember driving one of the first alfa 156 selespeed and have being driving a GS300 for a while before it where if ya change down with the E-Shift fom 4th to 2nd the car controls the gearbox and wont let it over rev, well in the 156 and a customers car at around 50mph going into the garage, i change from 4th to 1st but unlike the GS it did change down, well lets just say after the tyre smoke cleared and the pool of gear oil became visible i knew i was in troble

Same here, just passed my test, just bought me Yaris, first time on a dual carriage way..

2nd...3rd.........4th.........70[ish]..5th..whoops 3rd.. And because I didn't have my foot planted [went into what I thought was 5th and eased off] the engine held the car up..

Won't be doing that again! Newly qualified drivers eh..

Ouch sounds painful mate!!

I was going along at 55 mph (approx) once in my old T3 - went to change into 5th but totally forgot what I was doing and went into 3rd instead...she wasn't happy! Have never made that mistake again ;)

I've not done it - yet! lol

Although I do have a habit of trying to go from 5th to 6th in a 5 gear car - not a good idea!:lol:

I dont mean going from 5th to reverse by the way, just incase anyone thinks that - I take it out of 5th and then have to put it back in 5th - perhaps my brain thinks I need 5th because I'm in 4th - I dont know.....:lol:

Never do what i did and changed from 5th to 3rd at 80mph in a diesel escort. The big bang and the filling of the Hatfield tunnel of thick black smoke made me think something was a little bit wrong. Luckily it was a company vehicle and i didn't have to foot the £1800 bill

Oops.....

Never got the wrong gear, but on a couple of occasions in the Yaris I've gone to slip it into gear, and only find I've not puched it far enuff, to be met by that nice crunching noise you get.

I am too used to driving with the 6 gears now and whenever I jump in another car I struggle to remember its only got 5 gears! lol

Almost potentially destroyed a gearbox! lol

Phew! I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's funny, it only happens when I'm actually concentrating on my gear changes rather than just driving...

the dodwells island sucks!

my car slides in the dry on it and ive got decent tyres and suspension!

the worst bit is taking a left coming from nuneaton going into dodwells you wouldnt beleiev how bumpy it is in my car!

I change from 5th or 4th into 3rd at that speed... then keep it going to the redline! My car loves it!

Puts it's dancing shoes on and dances like, well, a really good dancer!

Iv never slipped into wrong gear, but i have crunched a few times from 1st to 2nd due to lazy left foot or wet feet slipping off pedal! Sounds horrible! But yes, the Yaris is mechanically indestructible!
