Avensis 1.8 Vvti Oil Issue - Again

Having purchased an 02 registered Avensis 1.8 VVti about 4 months ago, I have been following the threads 'with much interest'.

As my service is due soonish, I've been looking around for a decent 10/40 in the UK as this grade of oil is supposed to help with the problem. My own car doesn't seem to suffer from the problem as much as I thought it might, although, it uses more oil that I would expect it to for a newish car having only done 30,000 miles.

I came across Valvoline (synthetic) in 2 varieties of 10/40 - one for engines >75K miles & one presumably for engines <75K miles.

I've plumped for the thicker variety (for older engines - >75K) purely as a precaution.

Right move ? Would have liked to use the <75K stuff with the hope that the jump from 10/30 to 10/40 oil alone would be enough to sort the problem - perhaps I would be better say using this in the winter & the >75K in the summer ?

i got a 2000 model 1.8vvti, a mate of mine in a main agent says the 10w40 for modern engines is the way to go, but he said i might as well stick wih the 5w30 or whatever it's ment to be

(2002 1.8VVTI ) Put a litre in @ just below low mark and will see how we go ...

Just started to use a bit of oil but not sure how much was due to filter etc settling down after last oil change 2000 miles ago
