My 1987 toyota is blowing oil up through the transfer case shift lever right where the rubber boot fits over the cast shifter housing. Am not sure if someone has had this apart and may be missing a rubber seal of some sort or what. I thought maybe there was a vent plugged on the transfer case or transmission but found no vent. Any ideas? Thanks, Sturge

I fixed my leaky shifter. I pulled the transmission transfercase and split them.Found that the problem was the oil seal between the two.Apparently someone had replaced the seal but had installed it improperly. They had driven it too deeply into the seat and had blocked the oil passage hole which apparently forced the oil up and out the shifter .Problem solved.
