Gen7 Standard Alarm Sesitivity

My neighbours want to kill me. Someone please help! :help:

The last 72 hours my alarm keeps randomly going off (bizarrely - ever since the weather started being damp). Sometimes it'll wait for hours before it'll sing out to the world, sometimes it has been mere seconds after I've set it and I'm still stood by the car.

I've read through past posts about the Gen7 alarm, and having things in the cup holders, but that doesn't apply. Is there anything else that can mess up the alarm, and make it go off? Is there anything i can adjust myself to make it a little less sensitive? Or am i subject to a whole load of pain from the Mr T billing dept for them to check it out, and not fix it?

Also, anyone know how to program a spare remote unlocking key to my alarm / immobilisor, and where I can get one other than Mr T? £160 seems a bit steep for a new key....

No idea if this will help, but on the gen 6 the alarm unit is located just infront of the gear lever (or just behind - depends which way you look at it (nearer the boot!))

Anyway in the gen6 if you put coins in the ashtray then when another car drives past the vibrate and set the alarm off.

If you pull the gear surround up you can see the alarm unit which has a sensitivity dial on it which you can turn up or down to suit you.

I read something about the alarms being the same, so if you can find the box then yes you should be able to turn the sensitivity down!

Hi there

From what i have read the alarm sensitivity control is located underneath the centre console cupholders on the gen7. It should be fairly easy to get to by unclipping the gear stick gaiter and lifting the trim. I have removed the centre console trim on my gen 7 in the past in order to fit my stereo and it is fairly easy to do.

Failing that my g/f recently had car alarm problems and she took her car to a car electrician who diagnosed and fixed the fault all for £45 + Vat should be cheaper than Mr T :D Turned out to be the interior light door pressure switches that were corroded and causing a fault.

Wicked, cheers guys... Will have a play at the weekend as long as it ain't peeing it down. Oddly enough though, since Monday (weather got less muggy, and drizzly), its been absolutely fine again, haven't heard a beep out of her.

I'll still take her apart though, I'm desperate to have a delve around inside, see how things work, and where bits go! :)
