Gear Selector Cable Gone

Posted a couple of weeks back about my gearbox going crunch. You guys were right - 1 gear selector cable had gone - just been quoted £249 + vat to supply and fit the bugger. Nice thing to come back to after being away for two weeks isn't it. What'd you lot reckon, being shafted? My regular mechanic told me to go to a gearbox specialists so I'm using an unknown. On the upside it should be done by tomorrow.
