I,ve recently bought an m registered 2.0 diesel and after changing the Battery because the old one was flat , when the ignition is switched on the alarm sounds ,the immobiliserlight stays on and i,m unable to crank the engine.

Does anyone know the process for resetting the alarm/immobiliser.

thanks in advance chris

take out the Battery in the alarm fob.

press a button to drain any residual charge

replace the Battery.

now, either in the car, or by the front driver side.

press and hold one of the fob buttons until it flashes (about 15 seconds)

this should re-sync your fob with the ECU.

I had to do this several times with my old Carina. I can never remember which button i pressed, or even if it is both. Try each combination until it works. :hokus-pokus:

I was worried that you could do this with any kefob, and any Carina.

But I'm assured the fob has to be linked to the ECU, this procedure just re-syncs the codes between the two devices.
