Mr2 Engine Into Celica

hi all,

i recently blew the engine of my (gen.5) Celica, (conrod snapped) :( and have been scouring the internet trying to find a source for a replacment short engine or entire running engine, with limited results.

i have only just found this site and will be placing a thread in the "wanted" section.

but i also wanted to ask wether the 2.0l 16v 3sge MR2 engine is the same one found in my 2.0l 16v gt, as i have seen a few of these "MR2 engines" for sale, at reasonable prices.

the rest of my celica is in immaculate condition for its age, and so i was really hoping to get it back on the road again, and am wondering if an engine replacement is a viable idea on a vehicle of this age.

and help/suggestions on whether the mr2 engine will fit, or any other potential sources for long/short replacement engines would be most welcome.

thanks

jamie

Try fensport for s/h engines.

The 3s-ge in the MR2 is pretty much the same as the gen 5 (89 to 93ish MR2s). Newer ones have the same engine as the gen 6 (slightly higher compression, different cams, 173 hp).

Only thing that strikes me as different on the MR2 is that it has an electric PAS pump, the celica has a belt driven pump, but your existing pulleys and pump should bolt onto the MR2 block.

How did you manage to snap a conrod? These engines have pretty much bullet proof bottom ends.

thanks for the prompt reply mike!

i was late for work, trying to overtake this slow-***** cement truck. i had the radio up loud, wasn't really paying attention (i was in auto-pilot mode, you know how it is sometimes) and because of the radio, couldnt hear the engine screaming into the red in second gear. next thing i knew, BANG.

and the rest as they say, is history.

by the way, i contacted Toyota Celica Breakers in cornwall this morning, they have an engine for £475 (inc delivery)! guaranteed for 6months too!

cheers

jamie

Did they tell you the mileage of this engine? It could have done 50k miles, or 200k miles. 6 months guarantee is nice to have (depending on the terms and conditions).

Fensport advertise s/h engines for £495+vat, with a new cambelt (worth about £40). And they claim they are from 'low mileage', sourced from japan.

Surprised the rev limiter didn't save your old engine. How many miles had it done?
