Hey,

Anyone ever hooked anything like this into their celica (Gen 6).

DVD Player

I've the the standard double DIN CD-Tape-Radio thing in it just now, but was looking for something a bit flashier, and thought this would do nicely.

If anyone has any experience with stuff like this, please let me know if I'm likely to run into any problems installing it if I buy it (apart from some wee jobby trying to steal it :P ).

Cheers.

Nah, my celica's the standard brittish spec, and it's a UK site that the DVD player is from. So would I be ok then?

imports and uk motors have the same wiring.apart from the mr2 that has amplified speaker systems.only problems i think you'll have is the putting the facia back on over the unit's face because the hole isnt very forgiving if the new head unit is a fraction too big.you could always sand the facia down to fit.

Cool, once I find out how much the tax man owes me (after he screwed me with 3 months emergency tax) I'll probably order it. I'll post some pic’s and show you all how it looks. :D

WRONG AGAIN imports and uk are totally different 4 aftermarket head units just ask Halfords fitting people who managed to blow up my brand new alpine head unit and the internal amp that is only on the jap celica.it cost them a lot of money to put it right because they didnt know there facts either.

but then again i got a £350 head unit to replace the other one and an alpine 4 channel amp 2 replace the jap one that they fried

on this friendly site , we help each other , no-one is right ,no-one is wrong , we all put info in until an answer is reached without pointing the finger ,who is wrong , who is right, toyotas from uk and japan maybe different but we tell each other our views and experiences and get a common ground that will help us all.i am not wrong i speak from my own experinces and have owned both uk and import model celicas ,which on the topic of head unit install have both been identical in the way of install.

wiring is same for stereo on my import as it is for the UK GT model. It doesnt have a seperate amp

Halfords fitters are paid £5 per hour and have no training.

ok guys i am not the all singing oracle on this subject but as maleborn stated that all the wiring is the same , i thought that the guy who thinks that it is should know that it isnt.

here we go for the facts Halfords dont fit their head units in imports they use a company called hyde park corner who do a mobile fitting service these are SUPPOSEDLY experts.

the facts are that the autotech leads that are used to convert the double din unit to an aftermarket head unit on a uk celica are completely different from the import.

the supposed experts had to hardwire the unit and that was when they fried the new head unit and the amp that they eventually admitted they had also fried.

toyota main agents gave me a price to replace the toyota amp which they informed me was only found on jap imports!!

hot hatch corner admitted liability and gave me an alpine amp to replace the toyota one.

hope that clears up the argument ,i wasnt tryin to upset anyone just give a balanced set of facts.sorry again for any offence incurred :!Removed!:

 the autotech lead i used from Halfords was used on the uk model also the import model. 2 holes for 2 plugs , not different at all. Also not all imports are fitted with the dynamic 10 speaker system pack, which is reportedly a pain in the bottom when trying to install other head units , most of the mr2 fellas ripped it all out and went the 4 speaker way.

Sounds Like you are both right then!

Some must have the dynamic speaker system which causes problems. Not all Imports will be the same then!

Anyway Spotipus what part of S-o-T are you from and what colour celica have you got? Probably seen you about somewhere!
