3s-fe Tuning..

I'm looking for some advise please.

I have a 2000 Avensis estate 2.0 (3S-FE) CDX and I'm looking to improve the straight line performance, but I'm a student and can spend much more than £500.

A friend has just bough a Fiesta ST150, and having carried out various in-gear performace tests, I'm chuffed to say I'm not for off his pace... in a straight line anyway :D

We are both matched bottom end but in the mid-range and top end he starts to pull away. What mods can be made to close the gap ?

I was thinking step 1, reduce weight.

step 2, K&N panel filter ?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

P.S the car will be sold at the end of summer so I don't want to carry out anything too dramatic.

Cheers.

HI STICK A 100BHP NITROS KIT ON IT

IT WILL MAKE YOUR MATE SH*T HIS PANTS WHEN YOU OVER TAKE HIM

PROBABLY KILL THE ENGINE AFTER A FEW HUNDRED MILES THOUGH :crybaby::crybaby:

Superchips do a chip for the 3S-FE engine in the Carina which has a little more bhp than your Avensis, installing that will give you about 132bhp, more torque, smoother running and lessen that lean burn judder you can get with these engines, pretty sure if you ring your local Superchips installer they will say its fine for the Avensis engine. About £300 if I remember correctly.

Thanks guys

I've ordered a K&N replacement element which should help the breathing a little and I'll try routing a cold air feed to keep everything as cool as possible.

Superchip sounds good, I'll enquire at local dealer. NOS would be great but I'd have to get a loan to afford the many refills :D
