Well please allow me to welcome you to TOC, and I hope you enjoy your stay.

I dont have a GT-4 but I do have the next best thing........ the GT-R.

LOL Sorry to say I know nothing about the GT-4. So wait for the boys and they will help you out as soon as they wake up. :D

The car you will be looking for will be a gen6 Celica, the 2.0litre GT is a very nice car. As you said a UK one should be less on the insurance but will probably cost more to start with. Maleborn (one of the memebrs here with an import GT4) found out that Norwich Union insure imports as UK models if they are on their database - so if you find an import it might be worth checking with norwich union to see if they have it on their database?

94 was when the gen6 celica started but they did revise the model slightly in 96, this gave it clear indicators, different front bumper, bonnet spoiler, extra sound proofing and a 3 legged spoiler other than that it looks pretty much the same!

As for prices check out Autotrader - When I was looking I found the GT to be the cheapest model as there are more of them about. The ST (the one I have) was a bit more expensive as people want them for the cheap insurance and high MPG and there aren't as many about. I would have thought that a 94 should be about £3000 max and a 96 should be between £3500 and £4000.

Good Luck car hunting

wish all forums were as useful as u lot. i currently have a honda civic but due to having 4 years no claims and being 23 now i can afford something a bit more pokier. hence a Celica 2L GT.

what things do i look for when buying a celica i.e. common problems?? :help:

P.S. im after a GT not a GT-FOUR as these are out my price range as i have about 4k to spend on a decent car with low milage

no real problems stand out with the gt mate , if it has abs be sure to check it works and that the bulb on the dash does light up but goes out after 10 seconds or so.Check all the electrics work ie- air con, electric windows ,mirrors, sunroof, check inside the boot under the mat for signs of water.apart from this they are rock solid and will last for years , gordy pix gen 5 has 180,000 miles on it and still looks brand new.

Welcome to Toyota Owners Club I'm pretty new to it myself, just got an ST 25th Anniversary Edition and loving it,

Most Celica's are well looked after; people tend to take pride in a car like this. In my experience the best thing to do when taking a look at the car is take someone with you who knows a thing or two about cars, listen to the engine for any odd noises etc, also check things like the service history, etc.

Oh, and when you take it out for a test drive, turn the fans and radio so you can here the car better.

I know most of these are basic things, but they're worth mentioning.

Hope you enjoy your Celica as much as I'm enjoying mine.

sorry to mention this mate - but that link might get pulled (only gold members can sell) - not to mention thats a high starting price for a Civic of that age.. (didnt anyone tell you mods rarely add to the value of the car)

But as for the Celica - there is a lot about - what sort of budget do you have?

Are you looking for a UK car? or an Import? and any reason why your not interested in the GT4?

If you have £4k upwards, you will find you have lots of choice - but its better to get an older, higher mileage model thats been regularly serviced over something younger that has a checkered past..
