Oh Bugger

I`ve been making good progress on the GT4.. I think. Got rid of loads of unnecesary clutter in the engine bay.Fittea straight intake. Relocated the Battery in boot Got rid of all the EGR gubbins. The aircon`s gone.. Thought while i was at it i`d gut the cat....... This was my first mistake.

I took most of the gubbins off and have found that the exhaust manifold has a small fracture. Quite common i believe. Not a major problem as i can get that welded. But one of the lower exhaust manifold studs has been sheared off at some stage  . (Which does answer the question of why i was getting a ticking noise when the engine was cold.) But now i know its there it`s got to be fixed. Question is.....

Does anyone have any tips or hints on how to get the other manifold bolts undone without shearing them off as well? I`ve been giving them a liberal coat of plus gas all weekend, but i`m still a bit nervous of diving in there and making things worse. Should i heat them up first? or just go for it? :help:

I don't think it should be too much trouble. The head is aluminium, the most common fault is that people do up the bolts too tightly and strip the threads. Can't say I've seen a sheared stud before. Fensport sell studs that are M11/M10 so that you can re-cut the thread in the head.
