Not Impressed With Mr T

Ok so, i know what ur 1st reply will be, WHY did u take ur car to Mr t to get it MOT

i wasnt paying, the mother was, and it was getting serviced there so she insisted

anyways as a few of u know already my car failed its MOT the other day, on a couple of things which i knew as i stupidly forgot to remove.. blue side lights, illegal num plates so on and so forth, however after taking to a sep highly recomended garage it is clear to see that toyota basically ripped me for anything they possibly could

they said i needed new rear brakes, and that there was an in ballance of front braking more than the % allowed, taken to a sep gargage, said there was nothing wrong with either and actually showed me 2 diff brakes to compare them and said mine were fine with od few corrosion but that was to be expected, with regards to the braking imbalance... marginal but perfectly in the limits to pass for the MOT, the guy even had it on the rolling road and showed me how they tested it and that it was fine, toyota wanted to rip me for over £300 to sort all this out

next, they said that my rear wheels were rubbin in arches, this next garage said no they werent, there was some slight markings on wheels from rubbing but that would be the od occasion i had a full car load, and it did rub, chance are toyota saw this and just presumed that it was rubbing. with just myself or one other passanger no issues at all, heavy rear load will cause rubbing yes but for the MOT test they can only judge on what they see not assume, the rear itself has plenty of arch room.

They said my exhaust was blowing and not fitted correctly so failed me for this, toyota wouldnt do the emmisions check, the other garage said yes its blowin but ever so slightly and they can fix by securing it with a diff bracket

basically toyota wanted to charge me around £500 to sort out a few things which the other garage are doing a lot cheaper... toyota gave me a nice long list of why my car failed which the other garage laughed at and said they were being very picking as half parts were not stock. Half the things that toyota said have failed the car, are actually passable

all in all pretty disapointed with toyota, will not be going back to them in the furture for anything!!

sorry for my nice long rant

any 1 else hate toyota at the mo

Been thinking of appealing and complaining for toyota failing me and trying to basically rip me off for parts which were not needed yet and faililng for petting things.

You'll not get anywhere from complaining - just get worse service in my experiance. Try SLM in Bexhill matey, they are pretty good.

hmm guess, ill have a read of the terms on back of the crap they gave me back

im pretty impressed with this other garage i went to, very nice chaps and very willing to show and explain everything to you, not rushing you and treat you with respect, a lot more than i can say for toyota

forgot to mention toyota also complaied about my springs, said they werent fitted correctly, waiting to hear back from other gargae but chances are they said they they may just need adusting slightly and not a big deal, compared to toyota saying they can sort it for 80 od squid

Yes.. I hate going to Mr T, for anything.. My last service they charged me soo much for petty labour things that I almost cried. Charged me for new Wiper Blades, air filter and screenwash even though i told them I had just replaced them...

Cars are great, after sales/service/enquiries suck.

LOL Chuck! Not having much luck are you.

As it is I went to Toyota to have my MOT done on Monday! I wouldn't have gone with them but it was convenient as its a 5minute walk from where I work.

And guess what! PASS! Nothing wrong :) And this is with lowering springs that were fitted by me and my mate. The exhaust is no longer on, but the original was fitted back on with the same bracket that was used on the Fujitsubo.

To be honest. It was probably that "boy racer" image that your car has. Toyota don't seem very keen on young drivers (in my experience). They have always been pretty rude at the servicing/parts desk and when looking at cars in the showroom no-one EVER comes up to me

Oh well. At least mine passed its MOT ;)

glad to hear urs passed bud, no i know, they are pretty rude when dealing with u, dont have much time with u and not very helpfull

and yes you are probably correct they prob took one look at my car and judge me and the parts straight away, toyota are very picky when it comes to aftermarket parts

will not be going back

IMHO I think that the problem isn't with "Mr T" at all, but with the general attitude of most franchised car dealers who think that they have the right to rip people off just because the manufacturer said that they could sell their cars! I have a few mechanic mates who all have worked at some time in the past at franchised dealers.. but don't now because of the pressure to rip people off. :censor:

I personally will not use a franchised dealer unless:

a) they have recommended by someone

B) I need any warranty work doing

c) forced to by circumstances

Remember, even if your car is under warranty, you can get it serviced at a non-franchised indie garage as long as you follow some simple rules

Glad you found a decent indie garage to do the work Chuck

as i said last night TOLD YOU SO:p i went to my local rapid fit and it dead cheap £135 service and MOT. Had my car just over a year now and i was very suprised when it was comin up to the end of the warranty and the first 12 months. they didnt even contact me to see if i wanted them to do my service. when i phoned them they said i should have had a 40k mile service even tho when i bought it with 34k on and it had a service before i picked it up. so they said they are goin to have to do a major service on it because it was missed one. which of course costs more money. so told them were to stick it and they said they wont even give me GOLD discount on it either. they only offer that on parts

:censor:

Seems like there may be a customer service issue on that side of the Atlantic. I've been driving Toyota's and going to "Mr. T" here in the states for more than 10 years now and I've never gotten anything but excellent service. Volkswagen dealers on the other hand....

I love my local dealership - they are great!

But I am getting slightly concerned for service time how much they'll charge me..... I've heard so many horror stories.....

Isnt a regulator going to start cracking down on franchised dealers now though to stop ripping customer off?

which i find rather pathetic.....

BUT my car has the same body and interior as a UK spec MR2

and the same engine as a UK spec Celica GT4

yet its a nightmare to get parts and decent technical advice and service!

Last time I went in to MrT to pick up some parts I had three of the sales guys asking me questions and wanting to see under the hood.

The parts guys are fine - no hassles ... but the servicing guys ...er no thanks.
