Cd Changer For Celica

Hi guys - just a quick question......

I'm desparately missing a CD changer in my Celica T-Sport - I drive quite a few miles and am fed up with juggling CD's at motorway speed... :ffs:

I've just spoken to Mr T who reckons (even with my Gold Card discount) that the Toyota CD Changer is going to be around £400 fitted.

I've been to Halfords website and they've got a Sony cd changer which will evidently fit if an adapter/lead is puchased - the whole lot coming to just under £200.

Just wondering if anybody else has come up against this problem and also how easy it is to fit one of these things yourself?

Cheers for the help...

Dunk

Mmmm, was looking at putting one in myself but held off to spend £££ on other things........

I use a place in Bishops Stortford called AudioFile (cant remember number) and they can custom fit anything into a car. They did my Gen 5's Alpine and I will go to them when I upgrade my 190's stereo. They are very knowledgeable and the prices arn't OTT either.

They are based up next to the old Rugby club.

I wanted a 6 player fitted and checked prices at a couple of places.

The first specialist car audio shop told me it would have to be an original Toyota unit....total rubbish.

The second wanted £300 for the 6 CD Sony unit.

Halfords wanted £200 for the same unit.

I have to admit I was worried that Halfords might make a mess of it so tried to get the second shop to drop their price but they wouldn't so I went away to think.

I've now changed my plans completely and I've bought a 6GB iPod and I'm now deciding which car kit will allow me to plug it directly into the factory fit stereo and let me to control it like a multi CD unit but with 1500 tracks on it. There are several advertised for Celicas in the US but I’m not sure if they are the same stereos as the UK model.

While I’m waiting to work that out I’ve got an FM transmitter and it plays through the stereo.

So now I can have a huge selection of music in and out of the car.

i know halfrauds get a lot of bad press and quite rightly so but i once had a unit, 6 Speakers and a disc changer fitted,

had no problems whatsoever,

my advice would be to speak to the bloke whos gonna fit it, you can usually tell whether theyre up to the job...

(ie. is his thumb up his ar$£)

Cheers Silvasurfa - wasn't my first choice of colour (I bought it as ex-demo, I actually wanted a black one!), but I love it now........quite classy I reckon.

Halfords seem to be the best price (although I do still need to get hold of the place Gordon recommended).

Will weigh up the options and let you know what I decide. Whatever happens I think Toyota are pulling a complete ripoff trick with their unit!!
