In my 1.0 i rev to about 4300 to drop the next gear in at 3600, i find that there is power here due to toyota style black magic in the engine.

Another approach is to hit the limiter but this takes a while and tends to make engines cry :crybaby:

I suggest finding a nice curvy back road and giving it a few passes at different speeds, corners at 50mph in third to throw it into 4th 3/4 of the way through is always fun.

But its up to you, Yarises arent really performance machines ( shock, horror) but they will shift if you want them to

Around 3500 the vvt-i seems to kick in on the 1 litre. Nothing before. Got a 1.3 now and the power seems more evenly spread.

Still need to go past that mark to get top performance in each gear though. 6k is about right I reckon. Aiming for the rev limiter (about 6.5k?) is not such a good idea and will prob be slower anyway as power tails off and engine can cut off!

^^ what Al said, the 3500/4000 rpm is a good rev amount for me too..especially in the 1.3

...meanwhile, back on topic...

For the D-4D you really want to be between 2,200 and 3,500 - there's not much point in holding past that as the torque seems to drop off slightly.

3500??!! In a 1.3?? You'e killing the power! 3500rpm is when you're just about to get a nice lump of mid-range power that keeps coming all the way to 6250rpm!

Use the engine! Granted, when tootling around town, I change around 3000 for fuel economy, but then im hardly ever tootling! Keep the car at 3000rpm, then when a gap in traffic opens.... use it!!

I know it's no performance machine, but with some effort it will fly along!

Yes 3500/4000 RPM is fine for me, I'm not into huge performance gains..as long as it moves when it needs too then I'm happy..and having a nice screaming engine just doesnt so it for me :). Getting a happy medium between the two is fine!

I dont know the revs on mine - I just change it when it sounds like its about to die!

Going from 30mph to NSL - put my foot down (past the NSL sign obviously!) and she flies - high revs in 4th and then change to 5th - shes such a beast on the open road!

And I'm no girl-racer - I respect speed limits but once I'm out on the NSL, the old right foot comes out!

I dont know the number though - perhaps next time I should actually check! (No wonder I want to go blonde - I'm so dense its untrue! lol)

Not a big fan of driving my SR hard, doesn't seem built for it after other rides, but occaisionally when i feel the need i drop it at 6k or just over, with this power can be felt in the gear change!

30mph.... NSL sign.... drop to 2nd, floor it to 62mph, slick it into 5th and cruise! Manic driving! Oh, i don't generally do this... just daft... i change at 61mph!

Other rides?? Don't know what they are, but the SR can be driven fairly hard and it loves it... mine does anyway... revs easily, digs it's claws in in bends and just whips along lovely!

Yeah, but I'm already at 30mph in second if I follow your method.

What am I supposed to do with the other three forward gears?

If you're already in second... use the gear allllllll the waaaaaay!!!

The down-change is for when iv been stuck behind a slow a$$, so im in 5th for mpg improvement, then the road clears and mpg goes outta the window and fun begins!
