You Know What's Great About The Corolla?

There's lots of nice things about Corolla's but has anyone ever looked up the definition of the name?

Has to be one of the most creative names for a car yet.

Corolla

n : (botany) the whorl of petals of a flower that collectively form an inner floral envelope or layer of the perianth; "we cultivate the flower for its corolla"

So how many of you are learning this for the first time?

OK, I'm done. Thanks for humoring me. I'm a little drunk...:thumbsup:

It's the car that's had the most examples built with one name, but there are some vastly different cars called Corolla over the years.

The aircooled VW Beetle still holds the record for most cars build in history because it changed very little over the years. Technically slightly more cars called "Corolla" have been built though.

The model name Toyota has been building the longest is Land Cruiser, it dates back to 1949 I beleive.

:eek::eek: 'Beetle changed very little over the years'!

Have you every broken any up for spares?

Vertually no part from a 50s example will fit a 70's version, people forget it may look roughly the same shape but you would be supprised how many alterations were made each year than say something like a British Mini which remained basically the same (yes I know it went from external door hinges to internal, but most parts from a '59' Mini will fit a '79 Mini the same cannot be said about a Beetle)

 A good copy of the American WW2 Jeep. Nissan and Mitsubishi did the same.

Once again it's thanks to American influence/styling

The Beetle changed very little when compared to most other cars and certainly far less than Corolla. Toyota has basically just made 8 or 9 different cars and called them "Corolla" wheras the Beetle is essentially the same. The only major changes to the Beetle that I know of was fuel injection and the 1970's Beetle with the longer nose in front and Macphrson. struts in the front in place of torsion beam (called the Super Beetle here in the US)

Aside from that there were minor cosmetic changes in turn signal lights and the rear window. That's about it.

As I said earlier 'have you ever broken any up for spares?'. I presume for the way you talk you must have had 'em.

My own experiance was that every panel on a late 50's example was different to a 70's example (one did think it was the same but there would be a slight detail/mouting that was different).

Helped a friend do that many years ago, yeh.

Part of that problem had to do with slight incremental improvements made over the years I think. Engines and transaxles were still very interchangable as was most of the rest IMO. If you go with an extreme example such as an 1950's model vs. a 1970's one there will always be discrepencies.

Still, the original point about the Corolla has been made, to my satisfaction anyway. :)
