more info on the squel, location,if on move etc, first thought altiator belt :D

thanks it could be the belt it only happens when i'm driving not when i'm stationary. this happened to my last 4age car and soon after one of the main berings went. it sorta sounds like a high pitch squel and quite loud comes on at about 4000 rpm and goes away about 5

thankyou

As Andy said, it most likely is the belt. tighten it (5 minute job) and see if it does it any more. Mine used to squeal sometimes, but normaly a lower revs than that.

With the 4A-GE engine belts would normally start to squeel at lower revs. At 4000 the clutch/gearbox starts to get under a lot of load. With the 4A-GE squeeling at these rpm levels can often meen gearbox problems and can often be confused with slipping belts.

Does the squeeling happen mainly when it's been raining or a lot of moisture in the air? If not, I wouldn't worry too much as it will be more than likely a belt. But you need to get it tightened/replaced soon.

Does it affect the power steering at all? If yes, then probably belt. If not, get the gearbox checked as soon as really.

thanks don't think its the gearbox as it seems to come from the belt end of the motor and it does seem to happen almost every time i get to 4000 even when its nice an sunny.
